My differential has been leaking for a long time and I didn't know it. Now it's making a moaning or whining sound when I'm going down the road. It's worse when it's in gear and coasting, slowing down. When under power and pulling, the noise isn't as bad. Lately it has started leaking worse from around the shaft, and I'm getting a bad shuddering when coasting and slowing down...not as much vibration when pulling, but still noisy. I was told a while back that my ring and pinion was probably worn and that's causing the noise. Now thsat it's gotten worse and is vibrating, I know I don't have much longer. I'm looking for a used rear end to replace the whole thing, axles an all, but not sure what size I have or how to tell what other ones will work with it.

Whining noise on my 2002 Tahoe 4wheel drive in the front

Whining when you start it up in park. Check the power steering fluid. If it starts after you are going down the road, check wheel bearings and front differential. If you live in Indiana/pothole city. You may want to check alignment.

CAR MAKING A LOW MOAN NOISE AS IT SLOWS DOWN BETWEEN 50-40MILES

diff noises are a harmonic whine on drive (Acceleration or drive speed )or a growl on overdrive ( slowing down or coasting)
if you have a drive shaft to the rear diff it is possible that the rear shaft has not been assembled correctly and the out of phase of the joints will give indications that you describe
Take it to a drive shaft specialist shop for a diagnosis

1995 Ford Ranger whines. Three mech's, fuel pump, carrier bearings, wheel bearings. Who is closest?

You need to post the symptoms of your problem. And let us tell you what we think. But for what its worth here I go. Electric fuel pumps howl or moan. Carrier bearings on make noise when vehicle is moving down the road and make a squalling noise when the bearing is going bad but may be interpreted as a whine. Wheel bearings near the same as carrier bearings but they usually grind. So my guess is alternator or pulley bearing since they whine.

High pitched electronic/dentist drill sound when accelerating.

Probably the front differential, your probably hearing the famous differential gear whine. Change the oil, put Lucas for gears in it. You can get a hand operated oil pump to **** it out through the dip stick if it has one. Then fill it with the recommended amount.

Low whine while under load

The pinion depth is incorrect in the differential. This can cause excess backlash, improper bevelled gear meshing, and permanent damage to the gear set. It can be repaired most of the time by changing the shims on the pinion to allow 0.010" more penetration o the pinion into the housing.

Right rear is making a sound of medal scraping medal. I believe it maybe the wheel bearings.

If it's a scraping sound, when does it happen? If it's when you hit the brakes, then it's likely your rear brake pads/shoes are down to the metal and are scraping. This can happen when you're not hitting the brakes, however. Bad wheel bearings are usually a moaning/roaring sound that increases as road speed increases. Ditto that for differential bearings - if they go out, you usually get a roaring noise that increases the faster you go.
