Any leak is not right. Try tightening the flange slightly - do not over tighten. If the leak persists the gasket will need to be replaced. I assume you are speaking of the automatic gearbox oil cooler.
The same rule applies. try tightening the filter flange a little. if this does not work, again, the gasket will need replacement. It should be around a 13 millimeter spanner and you might need to work from above and below the car. First check that the leak is not perhaps coming from the oil filter itself and giving the appearance of being the flange. Both a loose or an overtightened filter can leak and the filter may have been installed with a dry seal, making it distort.
Just Had the problem with My 1999 Jetta with a 2.0 gas engine. What happens is the oil cooler gasket gets old and brittle because it is not usually replaced unless it's leaking.
The only fix is to replace the gasket. A little tough to get at but fairly easy to do. you can leave the oil cooler hoses on as the cooler will easily slide down and off with plenty of room to move it around and replace the gasket.

It comes outta the bottom of the block with the oil filter attached to it. Do you know what mesurement and what tool I should use. Also tighten from above right?
