This usually means the belt is loose or needs to be replaced. You can take it to a mechanic or your local auto parts place (auto parts places can usually look at it and tell you if it's loose or needs to be replaced). If there is a grinding sound with the squealing, you should take it to a mechanic (this usually means you have a pulley that is freezing up) if the pulley freezes to long, it will break your belt. Good Luck!

SOURCE: squealing NOISE possibly from fan belt

There are several things you should know;

1. Power steering belt, when you make a turn, sometimes make noise, because your car needs power steering oil,=transmission oil.

2. when you turn on AC then you can hear a loud noise, you must check AC compasser,If the head wheel frozen, it will make a lot noise, that you have to fix your AC compasser.

3.check these two first, if both ok. shot some wd40 or lubricate see if it's work.

Hope this can help you

SOURCE: squealing noise coming from the belts while engine is running

take off your serp-belt and spin your water pump, alternator, idler pully and see what squeaks or feels rough. your water pump bearings may be bad. the only thing you can do is change it. dont forget to change your thermostat and antifreeze. FYI your antifreeze is made with lubricants in it for your water pump bearings.

I have a loud squealing noise upon starting the car. the squealing normally lasts about 30-45 seconds. sometimes the noise will appear aftrer pulling off from a stopped position, as well. all belts

Try to tighten the belts a little firm.Sounds like when engine idling no squelling only when about to take off .Some times belts may seem ok on the outside but if you look on inner side you tend to see cracks in the belts .

2000 montero sport: There's a loud squealing noise coming from the engine. What could be wrong?

Squealing is most common with loose or worn belts, I would start by replacing the drive belt on the front of the motor and go from there, Its easier to troubleshoot a squealing motor if you know that the belt or belts are good.

Serpentine belt pulley is making a loud noise, the one at the altenator.

If it is a squealing sound when you start up or water splashes in that area you need to adjust the tension or replace the belt. If the noise is actually coming from the pulley it may be the bearings on that alternator being bad.

Loud squealing noises when I turn the wheel of my 2000 ford range

It sounds like the power steering belt is too loose, tighten it up a bit but not too much just enough to make slipping belt stop.

Loud squealing noise

The noise is most likely the serpentine belt. Check it's condition and that of the belt tensioner. It sounds like the belt is slipping, causing the squealing noise u describe. As the belt warms up, it's getting a better 'grip' and the noise stops. Turning on the heat also turns on the a/c in newer cars, this added drag on the belt (one more component to turn, the a/c compressor) would explain why it happens when u turn on the heat. Is the belt original? If yes, it's time to change it, and check the belt tensioner to make sure it's doing it's job of keeping the belt snug on all the pulleys. Let me know how u make out.
