Hi and Welcome to Fixya

Here's how to replace the belt.

1
Disconnect the battery ground cable and lay it aside, ensuring that it does not touch metal. Unplug the wiring harness connector on the back of the alternator if so equipped. If you can't pry the plug tangs open with your fingers, use a screwdriver.
2
Remove the nuts on the back of the alternator with a wrench then pull the wires off the studs. Loosen the accessory drive belt tensioner with a socket, by pushing the tensioner towards the engine. Lift the belt off the pulleys.
3
Unbolt the alternator mounting bolts with the appropriate socket then remove the alternator.
4
Fit the new alternator onto its bracket then insert the mounting bolts. Tighten the right bolt to 18 foot-pounds of torque then tighten the left bolt to 37 foot-pounds of torque. Route the accessory drive belt around the pulleys, except for the tensioner pulley. The drive belt routing diagram is located on the fan shroud or the inside of the hood. Push the tensioner towards the engine. Slide the belt on the tensioner then release the tensioner.
5
Plug in the wiring harness connector if so equipped. Slide the wires onto the proper terminals on the back of the alternator. Tighten the battery feed wire nut to 71 inch-pounds of torque. Reinstall the negative battery cable.

Have a good one!

How do I release belt tensioner 2007 Toyota rav 4 4cyl

I just changed the serpentine belt on a 2003 Toyota RAV4. The 3/4 protrusion is the correct place to relieve the tension. A half inch drive socket ratchet and cheater bar is necessary to relieve the tesion on the belt. It is a pain in the *&^% to do. Also if the belt is not stretched you have to turn the alternater pulley with a #10 socket and ratchet while feeding the belt on. Two person job to do this. Hope this helps good luck!!!!

Replace alternater belts

The 3.5 engine uses a serpentine belt which runs everything.
You would release the tension on the tensioner pulley and remove the belt. There should be a diagram on the hood or radiator support showing the belt routing. If not, be sure and draw a diagram before you remove the old belt.

Replace alternater belt

- Remove the negative battery terminal and keep it away from the battery post.
- Loosen the the lower and upper alternator bolts.
- Push the alternator towards the engine block to release the belt.
- Install the new belt, place a lever between the alternator and engine block, move away the alternator to stretch the belt, leave about half an inch of free play on the belt and tight both the bolts.

Change alternater. how do I lossen serpen tine belt to get to alternater

There is a spring loaded tensioner on the belt line. You can put a wrrench or socket, usually 15mm, on the bolt and put pressure to turn the tensioner. Then carefully remove the belt from the pulley and gently allow the tensioner to release. When re-installing it. be very careful not to have your fingers under the belt, there is a large amount of pressure on the pulley.

2005 Maxima, brake and battery warning lights are on. Serpentine belt looks good and the brake fluid level is ok. What else could it be?

THE ALTERNATER IS DEFECTIVE.
CHANGE THE ALTERNATER.--REMOVE THE SERPENTINE BELT BY PUSHING THE TENSIONER PULLEY WITH A CROW BAR OR BIG SCREWDRIVER. BE CAREFULL TO NOTE THE ROUTING OF THE BELT FIRST, THEN REMOVE THE ALTERNATER BOLTS. INSTALLATION IS THE REVERSE OF THE REMOVAL.
