We just got our 2011 chevy malibu about 4 days ago. We drove it off the lot with no problems. A few days later we jump in the car and turn on the ignition the power steering light is on and the car will not drive. We returned to the vehicle a few hours later and had no problems. The next day same thing.

Hi!!
You should take the vehicle back to the dealer ASAP, messing with the vehicle will void factory warranty. It should be no charge for the repair.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

The electric power steering has had a problem in the Cobalt and other cars, and this is almost certainly what is causing your problem. Obviously, it's under warranty. If they have to replace the unit, it takes less than an hour.

Hello, I read your problem, and a lot of the symptoms you are describing seem like itmis possible, that you have a bad 02 sensor, this is part of your emissions, relating to the cadilac converter, it mostly acts up at lower speeds, like coming to a stop or slowing to make a corner. Sometimes also a bad fuel filter could cause this when rpms are down such as slowing or on corners. That is the two things I would check. Thanks mike

You know the 97 to 04 Malibu is noted for intake manifold leaking antifreeze into the engine. A little antifreeze in a cylinder can keep the piston from moving in compression stroke. Take a look at the spark plugs, see if any of them have antifreeze on them and maybe the starter will spin the crank with the plugs out.

This happened to me two weeks ago, i tried to jump it and nothing, sor I repalced the battery. A few days later I got a flat, and told the service guy at the shop what happened. He checked the voltage on the "jump points" and told me the jump points weren't connected to the battery. I found out that if you need to jump this vehicle, remove the fuse block,a nd put the jumper cables directly on the battery. I spent 100 bucks on a new battery for nothing!!!

Lesson Learned: Chevy "Jump Points" make me want to jump off a bridge!
