Hello dbrunner.
Your brake fluid is low.
In the master cylinder there is a float level that turns on a switch when it is low and turns on the brake light.
When going down a hill the fluid runs to the front of the reservoir and the level drops turning on the light.
Fill with DOT3 brake fluid only. Anything else will ruin the braking system.
Also may be a good idea to have your braking system inspected for leaks and brake wear.

There you are, best of the season to you.

Having the same issue - not a fluid level - never had been. I have a theory (as a non-mechanic) Is it possible there is air in the line and at a decline, the indicator does it's job and lights up when it detects "no fluid"?

Believe me, pads are new - fluid is pristine.. brake light is a fairly constant companion when braking downhill..

Would love suggestions before I pay to have my brake lines flushed (or whatever the term may be)

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 brake lights staying on. Brake lights will only come on when in gear. Brake lights will not come on while in park. Brake lights just stay on going down the road

The brake light is for = handbrake and master cylinder oil level.( There is a float inside the master reservoir and oil level low will change from park to a moving car.)
Check oil brake level.
Check handbrake fully release or switch

Hope it Helps.

Brake light comes on when sitting downhill

It sounds like your brake pedal might hang like a pendulum, and swings forward hitting the brake light switch when the car is tilted down hill. Look under the dash and see if there is a retainer spring that has come disengaged, or look to see if there is a place for one. Go to an online parts lookup and see if there is supposed to be one that is missing on your vehicle.

2007 Saturn brake lights stay on go off when brakes are applied

My first suggestion to try for this car is to disconnect the battery, take and pull the access panel on the fuse box on the passenger side of the vehicle. Buy a pack of dilectric grease at autozone or another part store the small packets (usualy 1.27 or something) then unbolt the ground wires which are located in the fuse access towards front put grease on it and tighten down bolts again. Making sure they go completly flush on my car there was a burr in the middle of the threads and this fixed my issues. I was having random service esc, and airbag light on and various other gremlins at diffreent times. It Fixed mine it's worth a try.The factory claims diletric grease is the fix i just think they didn't tighten down the bolt under the dash but I would use it all the same.

My 2007 seabring won't shift out of park... Car

The car is probably on a steep hill and a lot of pressure is on the park pawl in the automatic transmission. If this is the case, a hard sudden pull should release it. Make sure the brake is on. When parking on a hill in the future use the parking brake before placing the lever in park.

Occasionally the right turn signal light turns on when braking

Sound's like their is a problem with the right hand rear light cluster. The reason it only happen's going down a hill is you applying the brake. The only place the brake and indicator light's come together is the rear clusted. To check this apply the hand brake gently with the button held in instead of useing the foot brake. This may not be the fault but it is worth a try as it seems the most likely problem.

2008 rav-4 toyota brake pedal continues to go down after you stop while holding the brake pedal at a red light.

If you own a Toyota with (BA) Brake Assist, it may be out of adjustment. It is adjustable on the 2010 Highlander and I would guess that it might be adjustable on your Toyota vehicle as well. (Assuming this is actually your problem, you have had it checked out by your service department and they said there is nothing wrong or that it was normal.) If the brake assist is out of adjustment it may be coming on too soon or when minimal brake pressure is applied. This causes a long brake pedal (brake fade or the pedal travels longer than normal before resistance is felt) and/or jerky brakes. As far as the Hill Climb Assist or DSC, this feature is activated when the brakes are applied after the vehicle has come to a stop and then you continue to press harder on the brakes for a couple more seconds. It also comes on if you drive with two feet. If you have your foot on the brake and you press slightly on the accelerator (when the vehicle is completely stopped), the DSC will come on and you will hear the chirp.
