My car only shifts when i first start it but its still sluggish, and then when i come to a stop,it wont shift at all. I have to cut the car of and let it sit, in order for it to shift into gear for me to move it. when at a stop, it wont shift in reverse, or drive. Someone told me to change the transmisson filter. What do i do?

I had the same problem in a same exact jeep.

For me a fluid change and a filter fixed it (for the most part)

It would still be a bit sluggish going into 1st at a full stop.

what ultimately fixed it was a Valve body swap.

Is this a standard or automatic? If standard, do you mean that it won't come out of first gear so that you can shift it to second gear? I don't understand your question. Need more information. Do you mean that it is sluggish and has no power? Do you mean that an automatic transmission won't shift?

check the fuel filter and when was the last time you had a tranny service done and a tune up also check the drivebelt
