In a pinch use a coat hanger. Open the coat hanger so that it is one long piece of metal and cover one end with black tape to protect your paint. place it so that it hooks the tank cover. Push the button to open the tank cover while gently pulling on the coat hanger. Voila
You can go in through the trunk, open the interior panel on the right side and manually move the arm that comes out of the motor if it is stuck. That will release the door for you. It should take about 5 minutes.
