The crank possition sensor is a magnetic pick up sensor... it picks up the magnetic energy of other magnets on a cam lobe and tells the engines ignition system when to fire etc.
as with anything , CPS' wear out after a certain amount of cycles...
There is nothing you as a driver could do to extend the life of any electronic parts on your vehicle... they will wear as they were intended to ... and break ....
