This can be 3 different things. The ignition switch, the starter solenoid, or the starter. Usually when it is the starter, you will hear a click when you turn the key to start. And the ignition switch doesn't go out near as much as the solenoid. You can take the solenoid off and have it checked at most auto parts shops. I guess it could be the security system also. But you would have signs telling you that it was the security.

Have you tried E46 Fanatics? Their website is free and awesome for your model. There is a lot there about keys.

My car, an '02 330 CI had a dead battery that didn't act like a dead battery. Will your car start with jumper cables on it? I bought a new key at the dealer for $204. They had to program it there to make it work. I know you can't move your car to get it there though. Good Luck.

1999 BMW 728I wont turn over

> the key would not turn in the door-lock

Are you sure that you are using the correct key?
Did you recently separate/divorce from your partner/spouse?
Did the ex-spouse have the car "rekeyed", so that the "old" keys no longer work?

Did you recharge or replace the dead battery?

No power and batt is good

My first guess would be a dead cell inside the battery, or a blown fuseable link between the battery and the fuse box.
Someone would need to check the battery connections and fuse box with a meter.

2001 Chevy Impala won't start

If the battery has gone dead, it could cause the security system to go into full lock-up mode. If it has locked up the accessories will work after the battery is charged back up , but the power to the starter will be cut off and it wont turn over. You need to do the 30 minute learn procedure. A GM dealer will print it out for you and you can do it yourself. It's very simple if you follow the procedure exact. hope this helps and good luck.
