Hi! Have you checked the sensors beneath where the door sits? Its a toggle like that goes down when the door is closed. The door may not pushing the sensor in when its closed. Try putting a rubber that can push the door sensor when closed. Hope this helps and have a good one!
I looked for this other switch you talked about and cannot find another switch for when the door is closed. The only switch I see and have replaced is the one on the inside of the door jam close to the front fender area which seems to actuate the lights and also tells you if you leave the keys in the ignition when the door is open. When I put the car into drive is it still says "front door ajar" .
