If you call the service department at your local chevy/gmc dealer and give them your Vehicle Identification Number, they can tell you if there was a recall on your specific vehicle. Many recalls had VIN breaks where only certain number ranges were recalled. It's always safer to call the GM dealer.
The 91-02 S series Saturns were noted for failed shifter bushings causing that problem, and there are still shifter bushing repair kits being sold for them. Look on eBay and see if there is a shifter bushing repair kit for your Saturn. They went out of business for a reason, mayhaps this issue was something else they did not want to address in later years and models.
