This happened to mine and I had to have sensors replaced. I took it to Toyota main dealers and they charged me £800. 18mths on, it seems I have another fault, as the ride has gone extremely hard and the "off" light next to the height control on the dash is flashing.

When should I change the shock on my Toyota Tacoma 2007?

Assuming you have inspected the shocks and there's no obvious leaks, cracks, tears, etc.

The classic "bounce" test is to get on the corner you want to test (in this case, one side of the rear bumper) and jump up and down to get the corner bouncing, then hop off. The shocks should stabilize the car in one-and-a-half gyrations (so, when you hop off, it should go up, down, up and then stop bouncing). If it's more, shocks are starting to wear out.

How it handles when driving is the other big indication. If it sways too much on sharp turns or dives too much when you break hard, those are signs that the shocks are starting to wear out, too.

Symptoms of worn rear shock absorber

To test if your shocks are worn, go to each corner of your vehicle, put two hands on the car, and now pump the corner down hard a few times rapidly, trying to get it to bounce, than quickly let go!, If the car only bounces one or two or three times and stops, they are fine, If any one corner bounces more than two or three times and keeps on bouncing like 5 or 6 times, it's a worn shock. Worn shocks can make it feel like your driving a big ol' loose boat across the road, even in a small vehicle with movement both side to side and up and down, so can worn or loose body bushings, worn suspension parts, under-inflated or broken in or worn out and softened tires. If your ride height seems low it could be worn springs, Shocks are cheap and easy to change, especially the rears. Springs aren't cheap and can be a pain to change on some front ends. Good luck!

I have a 99 bentley Arnarge, the shocks are not working properly. The car bounces constantly and when I had it checked, I was told the hydraullics were pumped all the way up and not adjusting! Any advice...

If just bouncy like riding in a wheel barrow, gas springs are the most likely fault.

If the rear is jacked up high then also look at the height control valve linkage in case it has become dislodged, damaged, moved. If not check the height control valve.

2003 lincoln navigator wont air up with new compressor

Try this.... My 2003 Lincoln Navigator was manufactured May 22, 2003 so it's the late model that came with the Intec 5.4 Liter DOHC V-8 (not the Triton engine). I replaced the two front ride height sensors (one for each air strut) and replaced the one rear ride height sensor (passenger side) that controls the ride height for BOTH rear air struts. That solved the problem for a few months during warm weather, until the weather started cooling off. Then back to the same issue. The front passenger air strut started releasing air from the solenoid (air block) making a "hissing sound." Replaced BOTH front air strut solenoids (connected at the top of each air strut). That also resolved the problem for a few days. After going all around the world, I discovered it's the Air Ride Control Module (ASM) that was the problem all along.

This is most likely the culprit for your air ride suspension problem.

Rear end of car is starting to sag down.

windom51977, Sounds like you have very weak rear springs. You dont state what make or year the vehicle is but I am going to assume that it is an older model. You need to have the rear springs and shocks replaced. The springs will bring the vehicle back to its proper ride height and the shocks will keep the rear end from bouncing all over the place. You may have struts in the rear and if so then these will have to be replaced as a whole unit. After this is done have the front end checked to see if the ride height is in specs. You nay need to have some work done here as well. Good luck with this.

I have a helper spring and trauck air bags fitted. still the rear tray bounces lots every time I go over bumps - very distracting when hard driving on sandy beach. could it be old shocks? or are the...

Yes its old shocks, the purpose of the shock is to slow down and control the rapid movement of the spring . The purpose of the spring is to control your ride height. If your vehicle is sagging the spring is no longer supporting the proper ride height and is considered worn and will need replacement. As for the bumpy there are all type of shocks designed for comfort, stiff or soft,

When driving down the road it bounces

Sounds like worn or blown struts - they control the oscillation of the car on rougher roads.
