I have a 98 Ford Mustang v6 3.6 liter engine. I have been noticing the car jumps quite often as I am driving around town or on the interstate. It feels like there might be a short somewhere to create the jumping sensation. It doesn't matter which gear I'm in, the car still seems to sputter trying to gain it's power or momentum. I had the battery checked and a diagnostic check done on it. All seemed fine. I am wondering if it's something simple I can fix, or if it's something more technical.

No, no check engine light, all the warning components behind the steering wheel are fine. I have no lights come on there. I am not sure if my altinator would have anything to do with it, or the timing belt. Just want to see if a problem like this sputtering is normal. Just feels like it's a short somewhere and the car wants to die and not keep up power. Some days is worse, and other days its hardly noticeable.

Are you getting a check engine light?

Testimonial: "I didn't think to check that. I have some cleaner for that. I will try to clean it out and have it checked. Hopefully that is the problem. thanks :)"

Well the 3.8 doesn't have a timing belt so that's not it. As far as the alternator, Do you notice the battery gauge going down? My guess would be Mass air flow sensor. Even though you have no check engine light I would get it scanned, It still might have a code in it. Autozone will do this for free. Try driving it with the MAF unplugged and see how it runs. (This will bring the check engine light on but after you are done trying it you can have Autozone clear the codes)

Ac quit working right after speedometer quit working around 60 mph. the rpms after i got off the interstate started to jump and my steering wheel seemed hard to turn

Hello, The reason why it was hard to steer was the engine wasn't running. The rpm, seedo, air condition, power steering does work if the engine has died. First check to see the belts are on the pulley and rolls in the engine carpment. If they are on and not broken then you other problem.

Will you car start, if doesn't. You could have run out of fuel?. Power steer pressure valve is faulty, broke a timing belt, run out of oil and the engine quit working. Engine got hot and stopped.

If it not starting, call a wrecker have them take to a garage of your choice. GB...stewbison

Hi,

$500 is a bit high. The sensors are on the exhaust and basically they help your car exhale. If you continue driving on a bad one it will throw your exhaust, intake and finally engine off key...

They cost about $90 buck a piece if you dont shop around and you can ask a tech savvy neighbor to put them in for you. The website below should be of help.
