Usally low oil level, low oil pressure, or possibly a defective sending unit. You may want to hook up an oil pressure "wet" gauge to check the actual oil pressure.

Well you could have a few different problems.

1. Check your oil level with engine off should be full.

2. You could have a weak oil pump in motor check with a proper guage and get manufactures recomendation on psi rating.

3. If questions 1 and 2 check out okay you could have a faulty oil pressure indicator switch so just replace.

2004 Chrysler Pacifica. The oil light keeps coming on, I had the oil changed & it still comes on.

When you say the "oil light," do you mean the light that says "Change oil" or are you seeing the red light that indicates low oil pressure?

screenshot 2024-03-14 153450-undefined-undefined-0.jpgIf you're seeing that red light, that likely means you have low oil pressure and should stop driving immediately, until the problem is diagnosed and repaired.

It's also possible to see the oil pressure light on when there's no issue with oil pressure, if the oil pressure sender has failed or there's a connection problem.

If the oil light you're referring to is the "change oil" light, you will need to manually reset it for it to disappear. Here's how (from Chrysler):

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position (do not start the engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, slowly, three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you start the engine, the oil change indicator system did not reset. If necessary, repeat these steps.

My Lincoln Continental 2000 Model oil light came on engine stopped after 25 feet. would not restart even though oil full. The car started the next day, but had a rattling sound at the top of the motor

Oil light is rather important it goes out if oil pressure is good comes on if oil pressure is low when it comes on damage is expected with continued operation like wearing of main bearings and pistons and cylinders can lead to a engine rebuild

What does low oil pressure on 2008 Chevy Impala 3.5 V6 LS

Do you mean what causes low oil pressure? This is a very reliable engine for the most part. If the oil light is on or gauge is reading low, have the oil pressure sensor inspected for failure. These sensors do go bad.

What does the red oil light mean on 1998 deville. also car has oil in it. stop engine now light came on too. Why ?

If your oil light is on, it means that the control module thinks there is no oil pressure. It could be a bad oil pressure sending unit, or it could be that the oil pump is out and that the engine is actually not getting oil. The engine would need to have a mechanical gauge put on to find out if it does have pressure.

What does the oil beeping light mean?

the flashing, beeping oil light is oil pressure, not level. low oil pressure means that the oil is all there, but its not flowing properly through the engine. dirty oil, a dirty oil filter, heavier than normal weight oil, a failing oil pump- any of these could be the culprit

Oil light came on runs really rough and then shuts down. so far i replaced fuel pump, mass air flow sensor, oil pressure sensor and oil level sensor. nothing yet. no check engine light either.

Don't run the engine with the oil light on. No oil pressure means no oil circulation, and damage will result. Have a shop check the oil pressure with a gauge that plugs into the oil pressure sensor port. If no pressure, check if you need a new oil pump.

Oil light

In most cases the flickering light means the oil pressure is dropping below 5psi. The actual problem could be a faulty pressure switch, or the engine could really have low oil pressure. And that would mean lower engine damage with the bearings or other parts.

We have a 1003 Toyota Camry 4 cylider wagon. We are wondering why is the oil light on. I know it means something. We checked the oil and it seems that it is ok.

well oil lights can generally mean 2 things sometimes they are level monitors meaning when the oil is low it comes on which is the most common and on some vehicles it is pressure activated. meaning it monitors the engines oil pressure. so if the engine becomes old and worn and the main bearings on the crankshaft start to wear the oil pressure will decrease causing the old blown up engine, however generally it is not uncommon for the oil level sensors to become corroded and go bad causing a false light, meaning everything is fine but the light is on, and on the other case if it is a pressure issue you should be able to hear the engine knocking and or sounding fairly rough when it is fully warmed up to operating temp at an idol! good luck

2003 Dodge Neon Check Oil light wont go off. Car has oil-full, and just put in new Sensor.

Do you mean the oil level sensor was replaced, or do you mean the oil pressure sending unit was replaced?
If it was the oil pressure sensor was replaced, then I would look into an oil pump going bad, not supplying enough pressure to the oil pressure sensor. This can be tested by putting an oil pressure gauge into where the oil pressure sensor normally goes, bypassing the circuitry that leads to the dash light for the oil pressure.

If it was the oil level sensor, then check for bad wiring.

My low pressure oil light keeps coming on when i stop and i just got my oil changed. The oil is not low. What could be the problem?

Hi,
That means LOW PRESSURE , not low in volume. Pressure is measured in PSI. The reason that your light comes on when you are at a stop is because your engine goes to idle at a stop and would normally have lower pressure. That doesn't mean you should get a low pressure light though.. I would have it checked by a pro right away as this could be your first warning before a serious problem.

Hopes this Helps,
