I have a 1994 Ford Escort wagon. The radio isn't

I have a 1994 Ford Escort wagon. The radio isn't working. It lights up when the headlights are on, but no digital readout or sound. It looks like there are 4 power wires coming into the radio. Two have power, I belive one is for the memory & one is for the illumination. The other two have no power. I checked the fuses by the driver's side door and they're all good. I traced the wires on the harness back as far as I could see and they all look good. Any ideas? I only have so many songs I can sing to myself!

I checked for fuses under the hood and found one panel with about 6 large fuses. None seemed to pertain to my radio problem. The main 100A fuse was still good, and the others were for the cooling fan, air bag, and some other large items. Any other ideas?

Check for fuses under the hood? and I think that the wires are memory illumination power and acc./ ant. probably a momentary hot controlled by the radio itself. used for factory amplifiers and electric antenna. so you should have...
the constant hot (memory)
only hot when lights are on (ill.)
only hot when radio is turned on (amp / ant)
and switched.
thats why I think there must be a fuse under the hood
I'll look for a diagram and post back. what I find

    Thick Brown - Earth/0V
    / ground
    Red - 12V Battery Constant
    / memory
    Thick Yellow - 12V Ignition
    / switched power
    Grey/Yellow - Illumination/Dashboard Lighting

    Blue _ Power Antenna

thats on the 5 wire connector in the back of the radio
check the yellow wire for power with the ignition on, if none is found the check for power at the radio fuse in the fusebox. if you have power on the fuse but not on the yellow wire you might try running a jumper from the fuse to the yellow wire, if this causes the radio to function then you have a bad connection somewhere in the dash.

Did you check the fuses? Bad grounds cause odd problems. 9 out of 10 times it is a voltage not ground problem.

Have found exposed and burnt wiring on left side of car. 1994 escort station wagon. radio is out and now left blinker and brake light. Is it worth trying to repair myself?

Hi, If you think the car is still worthy of redoing the wires, I would say go ahead.
But you might have to get a new wiring harness for it. I would have a pro install it.
Good luck.

1994 Escort Station Wagon. Radio stopped working awhile ago. Wiring started burning. Believe it may have burnt & exposed other wiring. Left blinker & brake light no longer work. Have found exposed...

Hi, You maybe able to repair some of the wires. But you still need to find why it did that. It would have to be a short some where. You can buy new wiring harnesses from your local auto parts stores.

Lights go off when i turn on the high beam

Pull your lever back if the high beams work that way you need a new high/low beam switch, if they do not you need to replace headlight bulbs.
