I replaced my carburetor with a new one but without the stepper motor. immediately after installation and for the first 3 weeks after installation the engine ran perfect. Now starting when cold, it belches black smoke and runs very rough. for about 15-20 minutes then the engine smooths out. When driving there is a noticeable hesitation when accelerating and a puff of black smoke, out of the exhaust, then the engine accelerates. I have checked the choke and yes it is fully open after warmup. Any ideas?
Sounds like either the float level is too high, there is a problem with the float needle valve or the power valve is stuck. I'd take the carb off and either replace it or take it apart and check everything inside. If you do nothing, chances are it will either get worse or if it's a small piece of junk inside, it may clear up by itself...I'd take it apart. Since it's pretty new, if you are careful, likely you won't need a gasket kit.
