Do your brake lights work? Your cruise is tied in with your brake lights. If your brake lights are stuck on or there could be a bad switch or bad wire on the switch then your cruise wont work.

My 1996 Honda Civic the. Cruise control won't work nothing will work on ot

The cruise control system on this vehicle uses mechanical, electrical and vacuum operated components to maintain vehicle speeds over 25 MPH. The cruise control unit receives command signals from the cruise control main switch and the set/resume switch. It also receives operating signals form the brake light switch, ignition coil, speed sensor, clutch switch (manual transmission) or shift position switch (automatic transmission). If the main switch's indicator light illuminates when turned on, it's likely working properly. Likewise, if the cruise control light on the instrument cluster illuminates when the set/resume switch is pressed, it is likely OK. At this point the problem would likely be mechanical or vacuum-related rather than electrical and the actuator/servo would be the prime suspect. On the other hand if the cluster indicator light is not illuminating, it could be an electrical issue such as the set switch not registering or one of the safety switches (brake switch, clutch switch or shift position switch) registering inappropriately which effectively cancels the cruise request. I have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. I just had new front brakes put on, replaced the front bumper and a lightbulb for the rear blinker. Now my cruise control doesn't work.

Au contrer . the brake pedal should be up all the way, or your sw that turns on brake lights also affects cruse....when your brake pedal is slightly pushed it disconnects the cruise. Did you bleed brakes properly?

Where are fuses for cruise control

If cruise control main light comes on but you cannot set a speed (no set), you could have a bad brake pedal switch.
(If the cruise control light comes on, chances are that it is NOT a fuse issue).
Some vehicles have two switches (one for brake lights and one for cruise control cancel) and others have a multifunctional, single switch.
The function to cancel cruise control is very sensitive so it only takes a small movement of the pedal to cancel cruise control.
You can try lifting on the brake pedal while trying to set the cruise, but this does not alway work. Replace switches are pretty cheap (less than $30) and pretty easy and quick to replace.

I have code p0573 saying brake switch A is high although brake lights are working ok, can anyone help please

Possible causes
- Faulty Brake Switch
- Brake Switch harness is open or shorted
- Brake Switch circuit poor electrical connection
help.jpg What does this mean? When is the code detected?
The P0573 codes is set when the stop light switch signal is too high.
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Stop light inoperative
- Cruise control system inoperative
P0573 Description
When the brake pedal is depressed, the stop light switch sends a signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM). When the ECM receives this signal, it cancels the cruise control.

Cruise control Does Not Work, Service Electrical System always comes on, Traction Control Light comes On

make sure 3rd brake light works, most likely you have a code in the EBCM (antilock brakes), some codes disable the cruise control, possible vehicle or output speed sensor or wheel speed sensor.

All the lights on the dash and interior as well as the headlights were flickering on and off suddnely. All the lights on the dash including all warning lights came on. Then a message appeared saying...

Just wanted to let everyone know what the problem was. The brake light switch was causing the problem.

When I spoke with the "GOOD" dealership they had asked if I was having a problem with the cruise control as well and that if I were it was more than likely the brake switch. At the time I didn't know yes or no, as I have mainly been city driving (not to easy to use the cruise). So I went for cruise and tried the cruise control and it didn't work, it came on but I was unable to set it for a specific speed.

So I headed over to the "GOOD" dealership (as they had this part in stock) purchased the brake switch for $15 and proceeded to change the switch out in the parking lot. It only took 5 minutes and no tools were required. Afterwards I went for a cruise and the cruise control was working fine, and I have yet to see the dreaded "Service Elec Brake System" warning message in 3 hours of driving.

Hope helps and keep us updated.

Cruse control just quit working on the way from Houston,Tx. Checked the fuses. All seem to be ok. Can you offer any suggestions?

CHECK THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE A ASSISTANT OPERATE BRAKES TO SES IF BRAKES LIGHTS WORK WHILE APPLY BRAKES BECAUSE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH DEACTIVATES THE CRUISE CONTROL.IF BRAKE LIGHTS DONT WORK.CHECK FUSE IF BRAKE LIGHT FUSE IS GOOD.THE BRAKE SWITCH IS BAD OR HAVE A OPEN FROM FUSE BOX TO THE SWITCH.IF BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING.THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO SCAN VECHICLE BECAUSE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM IS CONTROLLED BY A SERVO MOTOR MOTOR, BRAKE SWITCH ,CONTROL SWITCHES ,SPEED SENSORS AND RELAYS. SEE YOU HAVE TO HAVE VECHICLE SCANNED YOU HAVE TOO MANY CONTROL DEVICES.
