It sounds, per your description, that the IAC ( idle air control ) motor may be lagging behind.
Usually a good throttle body cleaning will solve the issue. The motor over time is contaminated with combustion residue and becomes "sticky". I would recommend and thorough throttle body cleaning and a fuel injection cleaning. Both of which will improve fuel economy and idle stability.
Give it a try, you won't regret it.
Good luck.

Is the check engine light on??Could be a bad mass air flow sensor or throttle position sensor??? If the light is on take it by your local auto parts store and they will check the code for FREE and let you know what it could be.

Good luck !!!!!Hope this helps

My 1998 for escort wierd problem with idling

When a crankshaft sensor has failed or is failing, certain timing problems will arise in engine function. The engine may start normally in some cases, but will cut off after a few minutes (or seconds) of operation. More than likely the engine will be unable to start at all. Since the crankshaft sensor is responsible for engine timing, the driver may experience engine backfire or irregular rpm function, if the vehicleicon1.png starts at all.

OK, so is it still setting the codes? Or has that gone away with the transmission harness repair? The idle is controlled by the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid. Ford has had a lot of trouble with these. However, the symptom is usually low idle speeds that cause the engine to stall. I think I would be looking for vacuum leaks. Ford 4.6L engines are notorious for the PCV hoses leaking at the elbow where it connects to the back of the throttle body.

1995 Taurus Engine Stalls

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
