I have a oil leak coming from under my truck. The oil pan looks ok and the filter looks ok. I crawed under and looked and the oil appears to be dripping out of a hole on a black plate that is between the oil filter and the oil pan. Any help would be appreciated.

The only way to know for sure where the oil is coming from is to get under it and look, There are way to many different places it could be coming from. For example could be leaking from a valve cover on back side of motor and running down the engine and dripping from the oil pan but its not the oil pan just looks like it
clean around the oil pan gasket area well as some oil leaks are actually rocker cover gasket and filter leaks that run down the block and appear as pan leaks.. Check front crankshaft seal as the oil from there also appears as a pan leak
Remove the oil drain plug. Remove the oil filter. Install new oil filter using a little bit of new oil on the seal. Replace the drain plug. Fill with oil through oil filler on valve cover.
you have to closely inspect the motor and the gaskets, the intake gasket often leeks oil, as does a head gasket, if you cant find anything on the lower end of the motor neaqr the pans, that would be the things i looked into next
The oil pressure sending unit screws into the engine block so you will need to look between the oil pan and the head.I suggest that you try tightening your oil filter first.
There are several places it could be coming from. The primary one is the oil pan. This would be the pan directly under the engine. It has the oil pan drain plug in it. If you are unfamiliar with the underside of automobiles you need to be sure you are not looking at the transmission oil pan. The first pan will be the oil pan. If you are mechanically inclined and have basic tools you can try and tighten up the oil pan bolts around the circumference of the pan. Normally if the leak is from the pan it will appear wet all around the bottom. However the leak could also be from the rear main seal at the back of the engine. This can leak down to the pan and appear to come from the oil pan. Most of the time a leak from this will be in one spot of the pan, leaving the front section dry. The other place is from the valve covers. You can check this by look under the hood at the side of the engine. If it's wet along the sides, that might be where it's from.
The only way you are going to know for sure is to get under it and look for yourself or take it somewhere to have looked at. You should have time to do this as long as you maintain the oil level in the engine. I hope this helps.
Locate the drain plug, size 13mm, drain the oil, replace drain plug. The oil filter is located by the dipstick. Replace filter put 5.6qtz of 5w-30 synthetic and you are good to go. and the oil filter is located to the right of the engine cover if your looking in at it. It looks like a small cast iron canister with a nut on top (its all molded together). unscrew the top of that and it is in there, the oil wrench come and can adjust to different size, I assume you never done an oil change and don't have any tools. go to any local auto parts store and tell them you need everything from oil, filter, removal tools, oil pan, funnel and they will give you everything you need ans some advice. when you put the filter back on, I would only do hand tighten. make sure you rub a bit of oil around the new rubber seal on your new filter using your figure. Buy the time you spend for all the tools what what need for oil change you will spend as much as having the pro do it, Oil change has been cheaper to change now day compair doing it your self. many places are offering 19.95 to 29.95 oil change, its worth all the hassle to let them do it. do the math, filter 6.00, 6qt of oil 27.00, tools 8.00, funnel 3.00, oil pan 12.00 right there is 56.00 buck plus you get to craw under the car and get dirty.
THE OIL PLUG IS ON THE OIL PAN MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SEE UNTILL YOU CRAW UNDER THE CAR. THEY USUALLY ARE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE OIL PAN ON THE SIDE OF THE PAN. YES YOU WILL HAVE TO CRAW UNDER THE CAR
Warm up engine, jack up car, use jack stands, get pan to catch used oil, craw under remove drain plug from oil pan let drain, take filter wrench loosen oil filter, screw off, clean off mating surface put layer of new oil on gasget of new filter and spin on hand tighten only, put drain plug back in and tighten, fill engine with new oil, start up and chk. for leaks and level on dip stick and your done.
