99% of the time we mechanics tend to trust computer of what it tells us when it come to engine diagnostic; i hate to not agree with VW mech which he pull the code and state is knock sensor although I have ran into computer spit out many wrong code and still does not fix the problem however I go ahead and replace it any way. Now if that does not fix the issue after replacing with new parts, I then would go back and plug computer back in to see what other code it would spit out. my opinion, I would also have your air-mass flow sensor check, some people don't realized throttle control/airmass flow sensor also link into the ECU compute between the revolution sensor of the transmission telling computer is time to shift. faulty air-mass sensor can also cause it to bogs or not picking up speed giving a false sense the transmission is not working correctly. you can go to auto zone and use their computer for free if you need to re-pull the code after replacing the knock sensor.

1998 Jaguar XJ8 won't rev over 3000 rpm ... engine cuts out and shudders at 3000 rpm won't accelerateobd code p0332 2002 jaguar x type 3.0 l P0332 - Knock ... Car is boging out in park and will not go over ... driving, don't worry about it.
if engine rpm advances (fast to 3000), and the car dont move
the tranny is bad (what part , dont know)
so did you get to 3000 ENGINE rpm and car didnt move.?
that is bad trans. its slipping
1: check all fuses
2: check levels of ATF in tranny
3: do the 50,000 mile full flush and filter. change and pray?
4: do the FSM stall test, It fails, bad.
5: step 2 in FSM after above fails, measure (gage) the tranny pump pressure. if bad pressure (2 tests) tranny is bad.
all that is in FSM
or alldata.com login and read ON CAR tranny tests.
Hello, well at what rpm it shifts at of course depends on how hard your pressing the accelerator at that moment,if you floor the accelerator it will shift at higher rpm (red line) but if you take off very slowly it should shift at a much lower rpm....but to answer your question 3000-3500 is a good shifting rpm( if the gauge red lines at 6000-6500 rpm) and firm shifting is a good thing, slow, sluggish and hesitant shifting is a sign of bad things to come from a tranny!! ps keep the engine oil,and transmission oil changed for long life out of your car engine and tranny. good luck and enjoy your new car......yz-maniac.
multiple answers for this question ,need more detail ab how this prob came to be , u can pullthe stick and smell the fluid to see if overfull , burnt fluid will have a distinguished smell , back of trans will have a vacum line ran to modulator and this could be prob if tranny has given no warning sighns
That is normal,If you do the same speed in 4th gear the rpm's will almost double.
The rpm's will repond faster in a manual than an automatic.
In a manual the engine supplies the power required directly to the gear that you have selected thus the engine rpm's will increase or decrease as needed.
i would try to push it threw warranty if the vw mech had documented it and its already been replaced a couple times i would call vw
