This is most likely caused by a faulty temperature sending unit. It is located under the hood, driver's side upper engine area, end of cylinder head and mounted below valve cover. Hope this helped and best wishes.

SOURCE: temperature gauge doesn,t move.

HI, due to the damage to the bonnet that protects the fan(fan shroud), this damage has caused a malfunction within the temperature guage sending unit(temp sensor).

Simply replacing the temp sensor will fix this issue.it could be a lose or ripped wire as well. make sure the temperature sensors wires are connected and not torn.

Mazda temperature gauge

When the gauge doesn't work, you have to determine, is it the gauge on the dash or the temperature sending unit on the engine or a wiring problem. Try this: find the sending unit on the engine and pull the wire off it. With the ignition key on, touch the wire to a metal ground on the engine. Does the temp. gauge move? If it does, replace the sending unit. If it doesn't move, replace the temperature gauge on the instrument panel.

My Coolant temperature gauge doesn't work

Coolant Temperature Gauge
The coolant temperature gauge is also operated by 2 coils. Battery voltage is applied to both coils. One coil is grounded directly and the other coil is grounded through the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. The ECT has 55 ohms resistance at 127°C (260°F). The resistance becomes greater at low temperatures. The resistance is approximately 1400 ohms at 38°C (100°F). This causes the current through the sensor and one coil to increase as the coolant temperature increases. This moves the pointer.

Probably the coolant temp sensor . have you tried that ? No, relay in the circuit .

Temperature needle stays on the hot , have changed temperature sensor but it still stays on the hot and the engine is not overheating or leaking anything..what is making it stay on the hot

replace the thermostat,, and make sure that the fan engages , just because the fluids don't boil over doesn't mean the temp isn't to high, if your saying that the temp gauge is stuck on the hot setting, and doesn't move even when the car is cold,, thats a different problem,, if thats the case whats the make , model , and year

Temperature guage goes to high, but it doesn't appear that the van is overheating (no steam/fluid leaking) Radiator & thermostat were recently replaced. Guage will jump to high when idle, but...

FLUSH RADIATOR, HEATER CORE AND ENGINE BLOCK.ADD 50 / 50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER ALSO REPLACE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.IF TEMPERATURE GAUGE STILL STAY HIGH THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR COULD BE FAULTY.
