Could be a faulty switch, wiring or corroded connection - have you checked this?

to clarify, are you getting spark (even when it doesn't start?) My vehicle (1990 grand voyager 3.3L) does the same thing. Sometimes starts, sometimes not but may (or may not) in a few minutes or hours, etc.. Always has spark. So I have a "fails to start" of about 33% which means it is unreliable to drive and not be stranded somewhere. I've been chasing this problem for months, but my workaround is to carry ether/starting fluid. Squirting a little into the intake (open the air filter box) and it ALWAYS starts when cranked. Otherwise the van runs fine (strong performance, good milage, etc.) It's just starting without help that's unreliable.

I know the ballast resistor is bypassed when cranking to start (and in the circuit for regular operation). This could be my problem and I'll look into it. The ether is easier to ignite than gasoline fumes.

If you did not put distributor back to where it should be then timming may be retarded or advanced. I would start there. Put distributor back to base timming. Put #1 cyl. at top dead center (TDC) remove dist. cap and take notice of were the rotor is pointing. Make sure that it is pointing at #1 on the cap. Further adjustments can be made later with a timming light. You may need to check the rimming specs and procceedure once you get to this point but base timming first. Good luck

you need a new fuel pump sir.

You can run an ohms test on them to make sure they all work.

If You can start the vehicle off ether only then you have a fuel issue. the pump is working and the fuel pressure regulator is too. so either the injectors are not getting an electrical signal to open and close of possibly, Your oil sending unit is defective and has shut down your fuel system (a safety).

I don't know what you might have done, but you can open up the air intake to the throttle body and spray some Ether into the throttle body to see if it is capable of starting. If it attempts to start, I would say the engine is probably good.
