My windscreen wipers on my BMW mini are not working, I have checked fuses and they are ok. The rear wiper works ok. The washer works ok. Could this be down to cold weather or a problem with relay? regards Richard

The earth wire from negative battery terminal to motor casing worked a treat - thanks! The local garage were mystified and about to call up BMW to have a look, then I read about this and it worked.

Same happened to our Mini One - read the article regarding the separate earth wire which I ran from the motor casing to the nut at the top of the suspension strut - 100% cure - fantastic!

They could be frozen to your windscreen.

I had the exactly the same problem with my wife's 2005 mini. Wipers stopped working, but rear wiper worked and washer worked. It had a blown fuse ( the one for next to the wiper relays). ReIays checked out OK. Replaced fuse and wipers started working again briefly and then started working erratically or not at all. Wouldn't turn off, stop unannounced or not at all. Checked fuse again. It wasn't blown. Then checked all the grounds on the wiper motor etc and cleaned them. Still no improvement. Motor worked fine when I checked it with a jump wire. Suspected a module problem. Took it to a local garage who hooked it up to diagnose the problem. They confirmed it but they couldn't fix it. Said they could order a new module from mini and install it but we would still have to bring it to the dealer to have it programmed. Insane. Just because we live it the computer age doesn't mean we need a computer to operate something as simple as windshield wipers. Not wanting to drop a thousand dollars to get my wipers working, I hunted around and found a new simple non-electronic 2 speed wiper motor with intermittent that will bolt it with no modification from a company that supplies them for heavy equipment.in Oregon. ( amequipment.com). The part number is 230-2005 , 230 series wiper motor, 12V, Coast to park, RH housing. They come in a LH housing as well so be sure to order the RH one. It bolts right in and the spline for the wiper is the same as the original. The unit is more compact and slimmer than mini's so slides into place very easily unlike the original. Order a switch and 7' wiring harness along with it for about $160 USD shipped to your door. Works great and saves you a bundle. With the harness, etc it's still $50 cheaper than a rebuilt OEM wiper motor.

Hi, First check that you have wash liquid in tank. second make sure that it will not freeze by putting alcohol in your mix of water and soap. You can buy it already mixed at most service stations. Check pump for corosion on contacts.
Good luck.

VW Fox. My front windscreen wipers wont work. I cannot see that they are frozen as the washer works ok. I have checked the manual and it say the fuses for wipers is located at no 29, the only problem is...

My wife has a 08 Fox and her front wipers stopped working it's just a fuse in bank 7 a 10 amp just replace with a new one or swap for the 10 amp fuse in bank 11 (just a warning lamp for the handbrake) until you get a new one. ;-)

My front windscreen wipers on my BMW mini are not working - fuses are fine, back wiper and washers ok too. Just front wipers - is the likely problem a relay?

You actually have a wiper relay this should assist you swap with another see if functions
Service and Repair
The wipers are controlled by two relays, located in the engine compartment fuse box.
These are wired in such a way that one relay will run the wiper when energized, and stall it when de-energized (Front Wiper-Run/Park Relay).
The other will select either fast or slow speed on the wiper motor (Front Wiper-Fast/ Slow Relay).

Front windscreen wipers have stopped working

Firstly check the fuses, if they are ok and you can here noise it will most likely be the linkage has popped apart, if no noise when on then check the switch.

*If you had cold weather when this happened, it is common for the motor to strain and blow the fuse*

Rear wiper does not work at all. front wipers work fine. rear washer works

1. check the fuse to the rear wiper motor
2. check for power to rear wiper motor at the motor (power wire going in to the wiper motor with rear wiper switch on)
If you have good fuses & have power going in to the rear wiper motor...
3. Pull old rear wiper motor and install a new rear wiper motor.
Thank you please drive thru......
