Diego, you ask lots of questions about the power of various engines and I am guessing you receive few answers. This must be frustrating for you and for other readers that find the pages of fixya filled with repetitive questions.

Few people carry the figures you ask for around in their heads and equally few people have a comprehensive library available to them and so to answer your questions they have to do an internet search and some reading - that is something you are clearly capable of doing for yourself.

You will find Wikipedia a good source of information about most production vehicles. I suggest you use it and cut out the middlemen and you will have more of your questions answered and answered more comprehensively.

One easy way on this vehicle is to use a straw in cylinder no.1 and find when the piston is all the way up on compression stroke,both valves should be closed and you timing mark on the balancer should be on TDC.
If vehicle has been setting for a long time as you say then rings are most likely stuck and that could be why you have no compression. You can try using an oil squirt can and squirt some motor oil down in each of the cylinders the recheck compression and see if this doesn't seal them enough to get some compression to start vehicle up.

I have a 1965 mercury comet with a 289 v8. I want to know what type of differential I have in it so I can buy a new cover for it

Here are the spec's for the 1965 mercury comet, 289 V8:

For 1965, the Comet Cyclone was powered by the 289-cu.in. V-8 with 225hp, the same engine that was put into Mustangs. And for more power, there was a special high-performance package, better known as "Hi-Po," available with the Cyclone, and it shared the 271hp V-8 which, when installed in a Mustang, was known as the "K" code car. In the Comet, the engine code is "A." When equipped with the Hi-Po package, a 1965 Cyclone came standard with: 289 four-barrel high-performance engine, four-speed Toploader transmission, nine-inch differential, performance suspension, quick-ratio steering and 8,000-rpm Rotunda tachometer. However, the following items were extra-cost mandatory options with the 271hp engine package: four-speed transmission, heavy-duty front suspension, low-profile rayon tires and 42-amp alternator, according to 1965 sales information.

Remove any belts, pulleys, accessories that are in front of the front covers on the engine. Remove the covers, you should see the timing chain, crankshaft pulley and camshaft pulley. Turn the crankshaft be hand until the indicator mark on the crankshaft lines up with indicator mark on the engine. It will usually be a arrow or indicator line. Next look at the cam shaft pulley, it to will have an indicator mark, see that they are matched up, If not try turning the crankshaft one more revolution, align the marks and recheck the camshaft. If it is not possible to get both marks lined up at the same time the timing is off.

Loss of power

Do you know how check if every cilinder is working? with the engine in idle, go to the distribuitor cap and carefully unplug one at the time, every cilinder spark plug wire,in the cilinder you dont see a diference in rpm variation, that cilinder is not working, replace spark plug, if you see spark jumping fron the distribuitor cap torch the spark plug wire, another cause to a cilinder fail could be a loss of compression in one or more cilinder
