AMC Cars & Trucks - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

at 13.4 volts the alternator is NOT charging it has to be 14.5-14.8 volts to be charging
next for the main problem
there are 2 ignition circuits attached to the ignition switch
the star position also allows power to the coil as it engages the starter
releasing it back to run engages the 2nd circuit that allows power to the coil through a resistor or resistor wire
if it stops after starting the problem is in that wire
with out starting it put the key in the run position and read the voltage at the + point of the coil
with no reading you have either a bad circuit or a bad ignition switch

The 232 cu in (3.8 L) I6 engine that was optional for 1970 became standard, while a 258 cu in (4.2 L) version became the option. compresson dropped from 8.5:1 to 8:1 for 1971, resulting in 135 hp (101 kW; 137 PS) (gross) from the 232 cu in (3.8 L) and 150 hp (112 kW; 152 PS) (gross) from the 258 cu in (4.2 L)

Probably not. In 1987 ABS was only available on some luxury cars and even then was usually an option. I don't recall ABS ever being available on an AMC branded vehicle.
