Hi Jegf, you should have your drive axles universal joints checked (wheel sides) and the hub bearings. The "donk" suggests a faulty bearing. Also when you start off again and there is no noise, this could mean that the bearing in question is quiet under load but rattles when not.
If you brake, does the noise go away? Then it is almost surely a bearing on the way out.
I have seen cases where the noise comes from the brakes itself, e,g, a rusted splash guard with some loose rusted parts touching the brake disk. But this would hardly produce a "donk" when stopping.
