Turn off the alarm and then remove the neg. wire from the battery before the alarm gets active again. Then remove the pos. wire and take out the batt. Insert the new battery in reverse order.
Well it would be the first time I ever heard of it happening that way. Have you recently changed size of tire and/or rim? that could very well affect your speedo.
Check you fuses, chances are the fuse has gone bad and will need to be replaced. You have a fuse panel under the hood by the battery and another fuse panel on the passenger side of the dash at the end, just pull the fuse panel off and you'll see the fuses.

i have the same problem with me 2000 montana. i was told that it was the tcc switch. it means that the torque converter is stuck in the on postion. to fix the problem i was told either to swap out the tranny with another used one or to have the switch replaced. the switch is internal and they need to drop the trans down to access the panel on the front driver side. the part is only $90 but its 3 hours labour.
