I'll have to pick up a tester. Do I disconnect the bulb from the harness and do I have to bare sections of the wire?

I need further help before I can comment on the solution.

Hi there,

With an electrical load on the headlight system, start checking the wiring with a 12-volt test light. Trace the wiring from the headlight until you find the 12-volt source . possibly a poor ground connection somewhere.

Post further comments for more help...

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Headlight wont work

P lights and fogs are fused separately to h lights. Go to the fuse box. Next the high low relays, then the column switch, but have a test lamp ready to test for a supply at the actual headlamp because if there is power to the lamp but no light, check the ground wires from the headlight unit are tight and on clean bare metal

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/electrics/switches/switch-headlight/1027524/ to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Good luck
