Hi, Locate the shift lever and select R. That should go in reverse.
An R on the dash should also light up. Good luck

you can run it in to an auto zone and get a code check. they'll be able to tell you what the light means. the onboard computer stores the codes after a light is tripped.
It could be oil level, but could be something more involved. If no auto zone nearby, a local mechanic can scan the computer for you as well.

Sounds like you need a new shifter assembly, or the brake switch. Most likely will be the shifter though if you can move it out of park with the override.

I have a 2006 Kia Spectra hatchback 4D. It was a show room car and I'm leasing it since March 2009. The engine light comes on and off intermentaly. I took it in the Kia dealership in Calgary AB many twice and first time they said it was a part they needed flown in. Same issue after the part was tested, now they say they need to look at the wiring so they need take the engine out. I had it hooked up at Jiffy Lube free of charge and they said it was O2 sensory issue, take it to a mechanic and get it fixed there. Jiffy people said that dealerships dont care about the maintenance aspect of cars. They recommended me to take it to mechanics.
Shouldn't the KIA people have picked up on the O2 sensor since its a computer diagnostic reading ?
