SOURCE: 1996 ford contour gets hot , no hot heater or temp guage movement

Is your temperature gauge working now? That is of more concern then your heater as you wouldnt know if your engine was overheating until its too late. Your heater core could be clogged, they get clogged quite easily. You can flush them or replace. The part is inexpensive but on some models you have to take out dash to replace them, but on other models it only takes about 30 mins and a few bolts.

Did you burp the air out of the system after changing those parts? It sounds like the thermostat isn't opening which is why the lower hose is still cold. Click my screenname, go to my tips and tricks, and choose the one about burping the cooling system - it may help you out.

2006 CHEVY COBALT OVERHEATING HAS NEW RADIATOR WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT

That is normal, it will not get hot without the thermostat. The water cools in the radiator and falls to the bottom and the bottom hose is cold. This is what cools the engine and stops it from overheating.

I have replaced the engine coolant and my blazer still overheats

You just have to keep checking. Try a new thermostat. Also make sure you have a good radiator cap with a good seal, cause the seal pressurizes you coolant up to about 15 psi. Check if circulation is good: engine running at normal operating temp. (to make sure your thermostat is open), radiator cap off, squeeze top radiator hose closed(use gloves, if necessary) then release, and look in radiator to see if coolant surges when hose is released. Feel your bottom hose. It should be warm to hot, If it's cold, your radiator might need flushing. Check your water pump for signs of leakage (whitish deposits around bottom of pump.) If all checks out, you need to consider a compression test to see if your head gasket needs replacing. Good luck.

Engine temp reading 3/4,new water pump, new thermostat, clean oil and new filter,no sign of water in oil,no steam out rear pipe, engine runs poor once hot, water pipes not tight when hot.head gasket? what you...

Remove thermostat and run the vehicle. do your hoses get tight now? If so, your new thermostat was not opening up. test it by putting it into a pot of water and bring up the temp on your stovetop. if the water boils, and the thermostat isnt open, then get a refund and a new thermostat. Be sure to point the spring end of the thermostat into the engine block when replacing. If your thermostat did open, then your water pump may be shot.

Overheating

Hi Dwight, sometimes a new thermostat can be faulty,it is easily checked by simply boiling in a pot of water for example if the thermostat opens at 180 deg once the temp is there you can visually see it open, also check the water pump for seepage you might not have the circulating volume required (cavitation) another option would be to check the coolant temp sensor,I doubt the radiator would be so bunged up it would not circulate but it has happend. be aware that if you flush your system read carefully the specs of your product as some products are ******* pump seals etc hope this will be of some assistance to dwight good luck
