kick down to lower gear without moving shifter

underneathe the shifter there is a plastic safetly lock , remove the plastic around the shifter to repair or remove completely

First, check transmission fluid level, if low may not be able to pump, may need trans filter and fluid change.

there should be a release hole by the shifter stick a pin in it and press the button to release the shifter. if not press brake down and try to shift

try pushing the knob down onto the shifter a little bit then try and shift. Sometimes if that knob is raised even a little bit it will be locked in park. Can't be 100% sure without seein it but worth a shot. Hope that helps you.

what is stuck?

the linkage or the cable from the shifter to the trans.?

block the tires so the car can not roll away...
open the hood and remove the cable from the shifter on the transmission.
see if you can manualy move the shifter on the trans.
if that moves... you may need to replace the cable (shift linkage)

THE TOP OF THE SHIFTER COMES OFF BY HIT IT AT THE BOTTOM SIDE WITH A PAIR OF CHANNEL LOCKS HARD..

Make sure the brake lamp switch(es) are working and no blown fuses. Be sure no aftermarket accessories have been improperly installed into these circuits.

You have a worn or damage gear lever(shifter).

I had that same problem. There is a gear shift lock button to the right of the gear shifter that has to be pressed down before you can unlock the gear shifter and the key.
