98 cavalier 2.2L cold misfire/no start

I have a 98 cavalier 2.2L, 89k miles. Over the last couple weeks, the car runs rough upon first starting when cold. It would clear up within a minute. The other day it would not start. It had the original plugs were full of carbon/soot and the electrodes were worn significantly, so I replaced them. It already has new AC Delco wires.  It started right up after the plug change. The next morning, it ran a little rough again but cleared up quickly. Are there any other common problems that anyone knows of?

Thanks in advance
Aaron

You may be looking at dirty injectors. I would run a good quality (something like Wynns or Redline) fuel system cleaner through, following the directions on the bottle twice. Which usually means adding the bottle to a full tank of fuel, and then adding another bottle after a second fill. Check for improvement, this will cost under $30, vs a trip to a mechanic. A friend of mine had a 2.2l in a sunfire that did something very similar and a good cleaning cleared it up completely. Unfortunately, he spent $300 at a mechanic to find out.

Well...my ball park guess on this is just a tune up. The engine light is usually showing a misfire. If the plugs are bad then the cylinder is not igniting the fuel and it is flooding out. With what is here this makes sense to me. Let me know what it does turn out to be.

97 cavalier starts and runs ok from a cold start after a few minutes of warm up it starts to run rough and miss. If i try to drive it it will start out ok but won't shift automaticly but shifts fine m

Sounds like possibly more than on problem, crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module likely on starting prob which maybe affecting shifting due to hard code in ecm, or shift prob could be shift solenoid in valve body of transmission. Both parts readily available from local parts store

Did you ever find a solution to the P0304 warning. I am at 40,000 miles on my 07 RL and got the same warning along with an AWD warning. Just got it serviced last week, what a coincidence.

Suddenly running rough

look into a oxygen sensor or a bad coolant sensor and the wiring.

Rough idle, Car shakes, sputters and misfires upon acceleration

It sounds like you may have a problem feeding the fuel to your engine, I had the same problem with my 89 RS. All the 1989 model's fuel systems were recalled. I think you may need a new fuel pump. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank in the rear of the car right under the rear axle. The fuel pump itself isn't too expensive, but with other small parts such as the electrical harness upgrade and fuel filter and the labor you should be looking somewhere in the $500 range. I hope this helps.

03 Altima ( 2.5 ) crank position sensor - retired ASE Master Teck

does the check engine light flash or is it on when the car misfires?? Bythe way, Nissan has a new program available for your ECM/computer for the long cranking condition. Check with your local NIssan dealer. Also spark plugs are rated for 105K, You have 110K on it. Check your plugs and make sure, that you use NGK if they need to be replaced. Also, look at your overflow bottle. If its down, top it off to FULL mark and monitor the level for few days. See if it goes down in like a week. I have seen some headgasket problems, where the coolant gets into the cylinders and drown the spark plug, causing a misfire. Let me know what you find. Lets get to the bottom of this and lets fix it.
