It might be your fuel pump not getting fuel to throttle body. Disconnect fuel line to throttle housing get someone to turn car over and see if fuel is getting pumped up. If not the pump could be faulty or fuel filter blocked. Also check to see if you car has a fuel cut of reset button it could just need a reset.

SOURCE: my 1986 gmc s15 will not stay started

Sounds like it only runs on starter fluid.sort of. Mine is an 84 with a carb. You may have a bad fuel injector or dirty at best. Have your checked for good spark or dist rotor pointing to #1 in dist cap at TDC. The timing chain may have worn and jumped a couple of teeth

SOURCE: changed fuel filter and now it wont start,,,how

You may have air in the injecter pump. You need to crack the lines loose at the top of the injecters.Just loosen as many as you can reatch.Back them off about 1-1 1/2 turns of the nut.Crank until you see the dielel squirting out without bubbles and re-tighten them individualy as the air is bleed out. When changing fuel filters try and fill them with disel as high as you can and then try to manualy prime the system while opening the bleeder valves.Well hope this helps and good luck.

I need help can't keeps 98 gmc safari started all I did was run out of gas put more gas in and changed fuel filter still won't stay on ran great before what could it be

Could be the fuel pump as they use the fuel as a lubricant. When run dry this can cause wear to the impeller of the pump.
I would check the fuel pressure in the fuel rail.

1991 gmc 5.7 liter motor starts and will not stay running unless i keep my foot on the gas

Use a bottle of yellow HEET dry gas to remove any moisture problem in the fuel.

Clean / replace air filter.

Top off ATF to MAX level.

Use starting fluid to aid starting.

2001 GMC Safari does not start unless starting fluid is added to once it starts I must apply my foot on the gas peddle it boggles down a little then will stay on once I release the gas pedal the van stalls...

Better have the fuel pressure checked for starters. Even though the pump comes on, your fuel pressure might be too low. Lots of GM vehicles are finicky about proper fuel pressure, especially at start up. It could be a weak pump or failed fuel pressure regulator-a pressure test will sort it all out.

98 gmc safari. Starts sometimes and doesn't other times. Fuel pump tests fine, new fuel filter and crankshaft sensor. Can't afford to keep doing process of elimination.

Check battery cables at battery may be loose or corroded don't disconnect unless memory is maintained always remove neg first and don't reconnect until pos is connected and tight

Had just put gas in the truck when fuel low light came on. Traveled about 30 miles and the truck started missing then chugging. Then stopped. It will turn over but won't stay started.

you may have picked up dirt from bottom of fuel tank. change fuel filter and see if this helps! if it solves the problem, just put in some injector cleaner in tank to keep system clean.at least 2 times a month, unless the dirt has reached the throttle body and messing it up. check fuel filter first. have a good day !!
