Is it a6 cylinder? Its ignition fault check spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor, if it has one & check the coils or coil packs).
just type the error codes into google and you get hundreds of hits and ideas of what to check

SOURCE: EGR Valve and Cyl. 5 misfire.....???

Hi

If this is an electronic EGR valve which is opened and closed by the PCM, then it may simply have to relearn the fully closed setting for idle, and it can sometimes be done by switching off the ignition, disconnecting the wiring plug from the EGR valve, and then resetting the fault codes with a scanner.

Now here's the important bit, the very second the scanner tells you the fault codes are cleared, quickly switch off the ignition. This will prevent the PCM from setting another code.

You can then reconnect the EGR valve and hopefully the lesson will be steadfast in the PCMs memory!

As for the cylinder 5 misfire, if it is still misfiring then you need to check for spark, fuel, and compression in that cylinder.

Run the engine for a minute and then whip out the no.5 spark plug. Is it dry or covered in fuel? If its covered in fuel then you have a spark problem, and if its dry then you have a fuel problem.

If its a spark problem and the plugs each have their own coilpack, then it is very highly likely the coilpack at fault, and in which case it is best to fit a new plug as well as a coilpack.

If its a fuel problem then it is very highly likely the injector at fault but you should check for a supply and earth pulse at the injector before condemning it, because sometimes the injector loom becomes crimped and damaged.

It could be a compression problem, but I doubt it, however, just to be safe you may want to carry out a compression test on that cylinder before throwing parts at it.

An easy way of determinig injector and coilpack faults is to move the suspect part onto another cylinder and see if the fault code follows it. If it does then you know that component is faulty.

Regards

Geordie

SOURCE: diagram for replacing distributor, cap, rotor...

Replace the coil. It is shorted out. I have changed quite a few coils for the exact same symptom.

The graciousness of a FixYa rating for my assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

SOURCE: 1989 GMC 2500 5.7L - engine surges and stalls at idle. Loses power at cruising speed.

Wow you have replaced a lot of stuff. Lets go back to the Fuel pump. When you replaced it did you replace the hose between the pump and the sending unit. These are common for splitting. Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to check what pressure you have? It should be real close to 13 psi and should raise to at least 18 or 19 when you pinch off the return line.

1996 Toyota Corolla 1.6l what cause code p0301, p0401?

Code P0301 indicates a misfire in cylinder 1 of your 1996 Toyota Corolla 1.6L1. The most common causes of this issue are faulty spark plugs, worn-out spark plug coil packs, or faulty ignition system 123. You mentioned that you have already replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor button. However, it is possible that the new parts you installed are faulty or not installed correctly. You may want to double-check that the spark plugs are gapped correctly and that the spark plug wires are connected to the correct spark plugs

Code P0401 indicates a problem with the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system . The EGR system is responsible for reducing the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from the engine. The most common causes of this issue are a faulty EGR valve, clogged EGR passages, or a malfunctioning EGR vacuum modulator . Since you have already replaced the PCV valve, it is possible that the new part is faulty or not installed correctly. You may want to double-check that the PCV valve is installed correctly and that the EGR valve is functioning properly. If these two code problems persist, it is best to take your car to a trustworthy repair shop to diagnose the issue as quickly and accurately as possible .

I have a 2000 saturn ls2 i replaced the mass air flow sensor now i have codes p0172 and p0175 how do i reset the pcm

use a scan tool to reset the ECM
you may have damaged or installed a faulty MAF unit
the codes you have are for (p0172) system too lean--bank 1===causes intake blocked --EVAP canister purge valve---fuel pressure--EGR system---injector/s---HO2S ( heated oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter (p0175) refers to system too rich-bank 2=== the causes are the same as for the first code
AS the HO2S is responsible for reporting the exhaust gas composition to the ECM to adjust air/fuel mixture --rich or lean, I would suggest that you recheck the operation of that MAF unit wiring and then the HO2S sensors

Wiring diagrm for egr valve 2009 jeep wrangler 3.8

JK jeep, i have 08 and full docs.
it wires to the PCM, same wire colors
as you can see drawing dont work right in fixya.
they get "crunched" badly"
the EGR is PWM modulated,
first is to clean in. the exhaust path must be good
the EGR must not stick closed or open.
p0405 means the pin on sensor part is stuck low.
tell me in most cases, the valve is stuck closed.
clean it is best first action.

the monitor pin is at X, this tells the PCM where the EGR moved
per PCM command. (called feedback) yours is hard stuck.

My scanner is showing 2 codes 303 & 306..i know its for #3 cyl. any advice /next step/is it coils? / plugs? /help

Common Problems That Trigger the P0306

Worn out spark plugs, ignition wires, coil(s), distributor cap and rotor (when applicable)
Incorrect ignition timing
Vacuum leak(s)
Low or weak fuel pressure
Improperly functioning EGR system
Defective Mass Air Flow Sensor
Defective Crankshaft and/or Camshaft Sensor
Defective Throttle Position Sensor
Mechanical engine problems (i.e.—low compression, leaking head gasket(s), or valve problems

I hade the same problem and changed the cranckshaft sensor and that was it. Above I have included the possible reasons for this code if you meant P0306.

have you changed your fuel filter lately this can effect fuel trims.

Checked dtc codes in my ford ranger, found p1401 manufacturer control auxilary emissions control, p0304 p0306 cylinder 4 and 6 misfires. egr valve has been replaced

Check and / or replace plugs, wires, distributor cap, coil / coilpack

Change plugs especially if you have over 50k miles on them.
Wires can sometimes have cracks in them causing misfire.

Hope this helps...

P0301&p0306. replaced plugs & wires new phlenum gasket.

Those codes indicate that you have a misfire at the number 1 and 6 cylinders. If you have replaced the wires and plugs, then a likely cause could be your distributor cap and/or rotor.

Good Luck
