Do you have the owners manual? If you do it will show you. If not you should use the point on the frame closest to the tire that you are wanting to jack up. If you don`t know where the frame is then ask a friend or your local auto parts store sales person. They should be happy to help out.

SOURCE: Jacking point for 1990 Toy Camry center of front.

Jack one side at a time. Place your jack under the lower control arm, or if it won't go under on a frame rail and lift from there. You may need to use some blocking to get the car high enough if you jack at a frame rail.
Jacking on the transaxle housing puts you at high risk of doing some very expensive damage. That housing is either aluminum or white metal. They don't bend like steel, they just break. Hope this helps.

Testimonial: "Thanks, I just thought I could do them both with the floor jack and jack stands. Best to do one at a time... "

Where do I put the jack stands on a 2005 Chevy equinox

Do you know where the lift points are on your vehicle? Your owners manual shows this info. Sometimes I try to put jack stands as close as possible to the jack. I can't see anything from here, so use your common sense, if it looks like the metal is going to bend where you placed the jack stand, it won't work.

Jacking points rotted is the a alternative way of jacking up the vehicle

There are a number of locations under the van where it will still be safe to jack it up, if you go further under the vehicle to reach the subframe near the vans suspension ahead of the rear wheel, or near the drive train frame behind the front wheel, avoiding any lines or cables in either case. This is only a stop-gap measure. The van's stock jack won't be the safest choice to use for this and it would be advisable to have a bodyshop/mechanic weld in replacement jack hardpoints with alignment studs as soon as is convenient.

Lift the car on the side you need to work by using the automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the Ford near the jacking point and raise it so the jack stand can be placed under the frame.

Hi all how do i use the jack of a 1997 318i bmw on the back wheel that is flat

Hi, BMW's have a jacking point. If you are looking at the back wheel, look along the side skirts under the back passenger door. There will be a small disc with a horizontal hole. Use a screw driver to turn the disc until it comes out, that is your jacking point.

Place the jack's horizontal arm all the way into the jacking point and start to wind the jack handle. The car will then start to rise at the back. The same prinicple appplies for the front as well, the fronts jacking point is on the skirting under the front doors.

Steps to rear brake replacment

  1. Park the Dodge on a flat, level surface and engage the parking brake. Put two wedges of wood in front of your front wheels and two behind them.
  2. Put the jack under the back frame of the car and lift it up until the wheels are off the ground. Slide the two jack stands underneath the car right under the axles, one next to each wheel. Use the jack to lower the car onto the two jack stands.
  3. Loosen the lug nuts with the lug nut wrench, and remove the lug nuts and the two back wheels.
  4. Look for two bolts that are attached to the caliper. Remove them with the adjustable wrench. Lift up the caliper and set it on the axle, taking care not to let it fall and break.
  5. Compress the brake pads which, in turn, will compress the underlying piston. If they won't budge, use a C-clamp to compress them.
  6. Open the spring clips by prying with a screwdriver and take off the pads. And if the pads are stuck you can pry them off with the screwdriver as well.
  7. Rub a little bit of silicone grease onto the back of each new pad and put the pads in the correct position. Put the spring clips back in place to hold the pads in place.
  8. Put the caliper back in place and tighten the bolts.
  9. Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts. Lift up the car a little with the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the Dodge all the way to the ground. Retighten the lug nuts.
  10. Lift up the hood and look for the master cylinder's brake fluid container on the driver's side of the car, closest to the driver. Top off the brake fluid, if needed.
You will need the following
  • 4 wood wedges
  • Lug wrench
  • Floor jack
  • 2 jack stands
  • Adjustable wrench
  • C-clamp (optional)
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • New brake pads
  • Silicone grease
