I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. I had a leaking brake line in the front passenger side, it broke. The pedal was completely to the floor and I lost almost all of my fluid. We replaced the brake line but the pedal was still to the floor. After several hours of bleeding the brakes, do not see no visual leaks, break lines are bleeding normal with full pressure and no resistance, replaced the master cylinder, the calipers and still the pedal is to the floor. Ran a test and bled the ABS brake system, followed all instructions on the solis computer, even tried pulling codes but no brake related codes appeared...the booster and ABS system appear to be working....please help, we do not know what else it could be.

When bleeding brakes after a major failure you have to start at the longest line first and work your way back to the shortest to get results . You have 2 systems in your car that maintains brakes in the event of what has happened so you have to ensure that the master cylinder is working for both sections and not one piston only. IF you are not ok with the procedure then a mobile mechanic with experience on your vehicle will be the safest option .

do u have the antilock brake bleeding tool? if not you will need to have the dealer bleed the brakes, the ABS control valve must be electricaly held open to bleed the brakes there of course is a special tool for this.

You will really need to completely bleed the system. You may want to use a powerbleeder to get the system clear of air. It takes alot of pumping of the brakes to get all the air out. You will not get good brake pressure untill you clear out the brake system of air.

try bleeding your ABS block first, if that doesn not work could need a master or proportioning vavle. Some scan tools are capable of bleeding the ABS system on some vehicles, and some you have to bleed manually.

Replaced everything in brake system including brake booster, calipers, pads, rotars still won't come to a complete stop It "coasts". To a stop no matter how hard I press on the brake.

Does it feel spongy when you press on pedal ? Sounds a lot like air in the hydraulic lines. Bleed the entire system again and check for leaks in all the lines. Maybe the bleed screws are loose.

Why do i have a hard brake pedal when off, soft to the floor when its running?

That is an easy one! You have leaking break cylinders! I just had that problem.. The smallest leak will cause your pedal to go to floor when running! It is firm when not running cause the vacuum assist is not running! I had my mobile mechanic do my brakes! Good luck with that and have those cylinders checked! I hope this helps!

Its a 2012 fieasta change the servo .marster cilnder and the peddel still goes to the floor

Bleed the complete system starting with the rear passenger caliper if you don't have a bleed box get someone to help you and have them pump the brakes three to five times and hold it down then open the little 3/8 bleeder located on the inner side of the caliper the brake pedal will go to the floor but make sure they do not release the pedal until you close the bleeder back up then repeat until there is no air in the lines then move to the rear driver side repeat steps above then front passenger side then front driver side. hope this helps Jeff J&D services

1998 all wheel drive mercury mountaineer rear brakes

I had something similar on my old 92 dakota

In my case it was the rear only abs hcu unit

Your rubber hose goes to either the brake tube from
the front of the truck ( rear feed) or to as you said some
other brake component.

You should be able to determine where the leak is &
if you have to replace a component unknown to us,because of rust & leaking- the dealer will be the source

The auto parts stores stopped having intellegent life about
25 years ago, they can't keep up with technology & your dealing
with young non car guys.

At the dealers parts counter they will show you on their computer
a picture of your frame & unknown part- if you even need it

Most likely you will be fabricating a rusted brake tube, hang in there

While I was reversing out of a drive way, all of my brakes completely went out and my pedal was all the way to the floor in my 2002 mountaineer. What happened?

Your master cylinder is leaking past the piston inside the master cylinder. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR ANY FURTHER. If you can complete the repair yourself, great. If not call for a flatbed tow truck to get you to a shop. You do not want to run into another vehicle because the brakes don't work the next time you try and apply them. Your brake light should be on in the dash now. It should come on when it senses an uneven line pressure in the hydraulic system. The master cylinder will need to be replaced, or rebuilt with a kit and then the entire system bled.

Changed front brake pads. brake pedal goes to floor. no brakes

Something doesn't sound right, you shouldn't have to remove the brake line to install pads. Did you have to do this on both sides? Do the new pads and the old pads look the same? Did you get the caliper on crooked? Just recheck your work first before replacing more parts. When you install the caliper, You have to hook the pad on one side first before you slide it over the rotor.

Brakes on 2000 Mercury Moutaineer wont stay

There Has To Be Air Getting In The Line Somewhere Keep Depressing it And Adding Brake Fluid. Make Sure That When You Bleed The Brakes You Have 2 People 1 Pushing The Brake 1,2,3 Hold And The Other Is By The Bleed Off. Heres The Job For The Second Person They Should Have A Clear Jar Half Full With Brake Fluid And A Hose Comming From The Bleed Valve And The Ither End Should Be Sitting In The Jar In The Brake Fluid. Before The Person Holding The Brakes Releases Tighten The Valve And Then Release The Brakes. Pump, 1,2,3, Then Open The Valve Again To See If Any Air Bubbles Are Visible Coming From The End Of The Hose In The Brake Fluid If So Much As 1 Is Visible Repeat Again. Once Finished Move On To The Other Side. You May Have To Do All 4 Valves One On Every Brake.
