First disconnect the battery and wate for 3 minutes for all power to drain, then take off the steering cover and then you will see the bolts to remove the air bag, to replace it just do all in reverse, hope this helps

run the fault codes and check for problems in the transmission. Engine lights also cover problems in transmissions ,not just the engine. I would look for a problem VSS sensor.
I may be a little off on models,, but
it should have an in tank fuel pump that cam be removed from the top of the tank, should not have to remove tank on single cabs.
does the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds after you first turn the key on, could be an electrical fault, all wires/connections/fuses in sound condition?
do not attempt this air bags are dangerous and even static electricity build up can deploy them upon contact and removal best have a chat to a local dealer and see even if it is legal in your state to do so. best to know air bags are really dangerous and a trained tech is the only way to go, the ecu will also realise that there is a fault with the air bag being stuffed with and log a fault as well as display a dash warning light. hope that was of some help

do not reuse head bolts or apply any lubricant to the bolts. Do up bolts in following order for each head.
