Why does my Chevy s-10 shift so quickly through gears?

first of all your truck is already in first gear when your going down the road....lol

check the fluid level in the transmission, also change the transmission fluid and filter

for the gear pos indacator if you take the plastic cover off of around the collumn theres a linkage w a tiny cable that conects to the indacator its probly broke.for the r/lights the switch is on the trany check to see if the linkage is out of adj.

ur computer probably wont show anything ur tranny problem can be anything fron needing a filter changed to vacuum problem to torque converter check the fluid for level if low fill up- before filling look and smell fluid it should be reddish in color not brownish [fluid burnt]if it smells burnt- need trans service can be just a filter and flush ,bad sensor-actuator or rebuild
