If the ABS warning light comes on the engine light should not come on as well. ABS light shows there is something wrong with the brakes. The engine light shows that there is something wrong with the engine.

Hand brake light as you call it , will come on when other thing's are wrong in the brake system ,not just when the emergency brake is applied . Low fluid in the master cylinder will turn it on, the ABS control module can have it turned on when their is a ABS problem . etc..... With the ABS , check engine light ,emergency brake light on , code's are stored in the EBCM - electronic brake control module . The speedometer info. come's to the instrument cluster from the EBCM . Probably have a bad wheel speed sensor . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.
Does ABS work properly? Get on dirt road and try to lock brakes (do this carefully insuring no police car tailgating,lol) Could be bad wheel speed sensor. Check codes with scan tool capable of reading ABS and trans codes.
abs light means u have a problem with one or more abs sensors located on the each wheel bearring or it can be one of the wheel bearring,brake light means u have to replace the emergency brakes and traction off can be a fault with the abs sensors or the abs pump but u can go to auto zone or any autoparts where tey can scan ur car for free
WHEN YOU SEE BOTH LIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME YOU ARE HAVING BRAKE FAILURE EITHER MASTER CYLINDER FAILING OR ABS BRAKE MODULATOR FAILING.CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IN BRAKE MASTERCYLINDER. IF BRAKE FLUID LEVEL OKAY. I HAVE SEEN CASES WHERE ALTERNATOR FAILING CAUSING BATTERY VOLTS TO DROP AT 11.8 VOLTS CHECK BATTERY VOLTS AT BATTERY WHILE ENGINE RUNNING SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS AT BATTERY WITH ENGINE RUNNING.IF BATTERY POWER IS OKAY.MORE LIKELY BRAKE MASTERCYLINDER AND ABS MODULATOR COULD BE FAILING. TAKE VECHICLE TO A GARAGE LET THEM CODE SCAN TO SEE WHAT CAUSING ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT TO COME ON.CODE SCANNING WILL SAVE YOU TIME AND MONEY.
The "ABS" or Anti-lock Brake System is exactly that. When the brake pedal is pressed in a harsh or panic manner the "ABS" senses the tires locking up or skidding. It releases just enough brake pressure to allow the tire to rotate thereby giving control back to the driver. It allows the shortest stopping distance. The "ABS" control module will be located next to the Brake Master Cykinder in the engine compartment and attached by steel brake lines. If the "ABS" light is coming on then the system is malfunctioning and should be checked as soon as possiable.
CHECK ALTERNATOR OUTPUT IT SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS WITH ENGINE RUNNING.IF VOLTAGE LOWER 12 VOLTS THAT WILL CAUSE BRAKE AND ANTI LOCK BRAKE LIGHTS TO COME ON BECAUSE THAT NOT ENOUGH POWER FOR ABS BRAKES OPERATION.IF ALTERNATOR GOOD.BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS ON ALSO MEANS LOW BRAKE FLUID LEVEL CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL.ALSO. YOU HAVING BRAKE FAILURE.YOU NEED TO HAVE GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP CHECK BRAKES SYSTEM.BEFORE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAIL.
CHECK TO MAKE SURE WITH CAR RUNNING VOLTAGE AT THE BATTERY SHOULD BE 13.5 VOLTS TO 14.5 VOLTS. USE A DIGITAL VOLT METER TO CHECK VOLTS AT BATTERY. WITH ENGINE OFF BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 12.5 VOLTS. IF NOT ALTERNATOR NOT CHARGING BATTERY.THAT WILL MAKE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND A FAULTY BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WILL ALSO CAUSE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD.HAVE THE ABS BRAKES SCANNED.IN THIS CASE YOU ARE HAVING BRAKE FAILURE.BECAUSE WHEN BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON THATS WARNING BRAKE FAILURE BECAUSE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS UNIT IS TOGETHER AS ONE.NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.COULD LOSE BRAKE CONTROL AT ANY TIME TOW IT IN.
I think these lights are not related. The ABS light means the ABS is not working, and has nothing to do with the brakes working. You can have brakes and not have the ABS part working. I don't think a bad ABS would turn on the check engine light, but it may.
This is normal for your anti-lock brakes to quit when the abs light is on.What you will need to do is retrieve the codes and then you can find out what part of the abs system is giving you the problem.This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You can post back and I can help you with the code or codes that are in the brake control module.Hope this helps.
