Drain the cooling system down a little bit. Remove the upper radiator hose and heater hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the two bolts holding the housing to the head. Remove the thermostat and clean off the old gasket. Install the new thermostat and gasket and reassemble. Top off the cooling system. Run the engine and check for leaks.

How to change thermostat on 4.7 2000 jeep grand cherokee larado

Passenger side, front of engine, where the lower hose comes out of the engine, its behind the black plastic thermostat housing that is bolted to the aluminum front timing chain cover. Two bolts hold it on, 8mm socket gets them off.

My check engine light is on. Its reading code p1281 engine cool for too long. My heat and ac works fine with no problems. What should I do?

This code is stored when the thermostat does not function properly and it causes the engine to take longer than normal to heat up to operating temperature. So to fix the problem will require the thermostat to be replaced. Have the thermostat replaced and the codes cleared.

I have no heat in my 1996 jeep cherokee classic,

if the blower fan is working then you need to change the thermostat and make sure the heater core is not bad.
if the fan is not working then check the fuse maybe your regulator or fan is bad
also try bleeding the thermostat

The car keep overheating, there is water in the radiator and the resevior tank 2000 jeep grand cherokee i check the oil their is no water found in the oil the water from both unit stays full

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck closed. Shouldn't be more than a $20 part from autozone and is simple to replace. Follow your top radiator hose to the motor and it will connect to your thermostat housing. Disconnect the hose (antifreeze will run out) unbolt the housing, and replace the old thermostat. Refill radiator and bleed the system.

What should the thermostat setting be on a 2000 jeep cherokee with a 4.0 litre 6 cylinder motor.

You can't set a thermostat but you should only use a 195 degree(f) or the engine sensors will think the engine has not warmed up.

No heat

You may need a GOOD new thermostat. I had the same problem twice on my first generation Dakota. The problem for me turned out to be the DODGE thermostat I used to replace the old Dodge part. I went and got a Stant brand from local auto parts store using the standard temperature spec and quit shivering the next time I drove it. I don't know if your engine is a Dodge or Chrysler engine, but it sounds like the same thing.
