SOURCE: Where is the crankshaft position

It is stuck in bellhousing of the transmission near the rear head. The new crank sensor will come with a piece of gasket paper on the end of the sensor. Install the sensor all the way in against the pick-up wheel. When you crank the engine the wheel will rip off the paper and the adjustment will be correct.

SOURCE: Replace crankshaft position sensor

Remove the left front wheel....(drivers side). Remove all accessory belts. Remove the crankshaft shaft pulley.......remove the plastic lower timing belt cover.....and there it is! It is mounted with one bolt.
The wiring runs down the right side of the timing cover while looking at it from the drivers side of the car.

Testimonial: "I ended up having my mechanic do the work. He did say he had to move all those parts to get to the sensor. "

Partition open on my clk 350 mercedes, top won't go down

your crank and no start issue is likely caused by a failing crankshaft position sensor. they usually fail when at high temps like driving and when engine cools off they are OK again, it will fail while driving as it gets worse.

DIY Crankshaft Position Sensor BenzCranks No Start
Problems with the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) on Mercedes-Benz cars are fairly common. If you have been experiencing stalling or no start conditions, a failed crankshaft position sensor is often the problem. Your CPS may have failed if the engine cranks but it will not start. At first, you may experience no start conditions intermittently. As the crankshaft position sensor fails completely, the car will no longer start or will die when you are driving. Starting problems are initially random, but more frequent when the engine is hot. Other symptoms of a failed crankshaft position sensor are poor acceleration, engine vibrations, poor throttle response, bad fuel economy, hesitation, engine stalls. The engine starts if you let it cool down. (Thanks to MB Medic)

2000 Mercedes CLK..I think it is a vapor lock problem..car starts as usual but 5-7 minutes later it just shuts down..happened in traffic..so I dont dare to drive it..Afterwards it doesnt start unril...

Sounds like the crankshaft position sensor needs to be replaced. They are a common problem with the Mercedes. That sensor is the one that the engine control module looks at to see if the engine is running. When they get hot and stop producing a signal the engine control module thinks the engine is not running and shuts of the fuel. After waiting awhile they cool down and the vehicle will start up again. I've changed many of them when I worked at the dealer. Tricky part is when there working and the car is running there will be no check engine light on or code stored. Usually will only have the code when the car won't start. Let me know what you end up finding out on it but that would be the first place to look and probably the cheapest.
