Ok on my 1988 honda prelude the paint is kinda fading but not really it just sits in the sun so it has this white coat on it. How can i get it off. What do i use??
Please help
Thanks
It Depends how bad the fading is. A good re store polish from mothers or 3m will bring it bk but it wont last. The sun is breaking the pigement and resins so in the end it will need a paint job.

you are in cars and trucks with boat question, failure....
what paint we cant guess the object you are alluding to.
but Ill answer.
all paint does that, now and forever. the sun always wins. always.
no paint on earth lasts forever,
why not go to any paint shop for RV and ask them.
or any pro vehicle paint shop.
hopefully they will not giggle most will put their SALES hat
and go, gee ours dont fade?(lies)
then sell you a paint job.
marine what, jet ski, must we guess, or outboard motor casings
or hulls?? what?
keep the vehicle garaged, paint last near forerver
or buy a tarp.
but outside, under MR. SOL, its doomed.
Sun breaks down or crystallizes some of the pigments and plastic compounds in the paint. (And plastic headlights) Melt everything back together with a single quick swipe or spray of mild enamel or lacquer thinner with 2 to 5% lacquer or enamel clear. Even clear nail polish in 95% thinner can restore some shine, but you can't keep rubbing, it will all soften into a total mess. If you don't want to pay a shop to re-clear or paint your car, just buy a can of clear glossy spray and spray it into a jar and mix a ton of thinner into it. Dab a rag into it and apply it on a hidden part of your paint.
if any vehicle has been treated rough and not cared for, what about servicing/maintenance,has that been neglected as well.
NEVER buy anything that has not been loved, you will pay dearly for it in the long run.
firstly replacement waterpump is not time sensitive, change it when it goes.
the clutch can last from 7seconds,foot rest, to 150k if driven long distances, sometimes longer,
the paint is water based and should be waxed every year to stop it fading too badly,(good maintenance always pays off.....)red/blue are the worse.
This is a common problem with base coat clear coat paint, you may want to take it to the dealer and see if they will do something about it. GM and ford both had a problem with the clear coat fading and actually peeling away. If enough people complain they may do something about it. It has to basically be sanded down and repainted and clear coated again. The only sure way to keep this from happening is using a car cover when it’s in the sun. And blue is one of the worst I have seen for failure. But again it’s worth a shot to go to the dealer and see if there is a recall on the paint. The squeaky wheel gets greased
hi from uk the fade on paintwork you describe is not uncommon on this colour and especially on red which tends to go pink ? may i suggest you try this remedy which was shown to me some years ago by a paint sprayer expert ? choose a small panel that has faded then use some metal liquid polish ie brasso or similar then pour a little on a clean cloth and rub on paintwork use straight motion not circular / left to right or up /dawn rub with light pressure over the panel then use warm soap water and sponge to wash the polish off then dry paintwork with clean cloth you will find the colour and shine has come up ? also feel the difference ? if you are satisfied ?? then with LOTS of patience? continue with proceedure panel by panel what you are doing is removing all old wax from paint and it is this that has dicoloured due to sun/heat then when car is finished? use a wash/wax detergent for final wash/rinse and leather off i recommend you do not try rushing this job or get fed up ? 1/2 way thro if you want car to look good please come back with update on how it goes ?
go to a Honda Dealership and ask them to order a new sunroof gasket replacement kit. they have em and they may even have instructions on how to remove the old and install the new. I've had awesome experiences with the Honda parts division. Hope this was the answer you wanted. (don't even look for an after market one..unless you want a nightmare)
