yeah i believe now its looking like the oil pump since im pretty sure ive done everything else. is it easy to check if i have a loose/worn engine bearing? also there are no knocking or ticking noises and had the pressure mechanically checked and is fine, could it still be the pressure sender? didnt expect such a quick response, Thanks!

If your oil pressure is good, let's look beyond the oil pump.
I'd like to tell you how to turn off the pesky light, but that's beyond my skill.
In the long run, you may choose to put black tape over it.
It could be the sending unit, yes.
They aren't too expensive.
If that doesn't work, I'd consider an oil pressure gauge!.
You didn't say what year or model you have.
Could you handle an oil pressure gauge mounted under the dashboard?
Loose or worn bearings , if not noisy now, will very often fail very quickly, sometimes before you can even reach the ignition key to turn it off!
Be blessed.

SOURCE: Oil light comes on and dings all day

If engine is not ticking or knocking while running, likely the pressure sender is faulty. If changing it makes no difference, have actual pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.

SOURCE: flashig oil light

You either have a loose/worn engine bearing or a worn out oil pump, do not drive the car this way, you will cause serious damage to the whole engine. A oil switch is for a light, it turns on the light when oil pressure falls below about 10 PSI, a sending unit is for a guage that shows oil pressure with a scale, it may have numbers on the guage or just green and red, or high and low.

SOURCE: i have a honda 1993 the oil light is on .I change

10 psi minimum at idle and 50psi at 3000 rpm are needed for the light to be off. If you have this check for a bad ground wire and reset the CEL.
Good luck...i hope this helps

My oil light comes on after higher speeds while idling at a traffic light.

It may be your oil pressure transmitter switch at fault. There's many different oil pressure transmitter switches. Here are some generic images:
oil pressure transmitter switch Google Search
It could also be that your vehicle is due an oil/filter change.
Is your oil level ok?

It's unlikely to be your oil pump at fault.
  1. Check your oil level
  2. Is the vehicle due an oil/filter change?
The oil pressure transmitter switch simply tells the engine 'low oil pressure'. This usually happens at idling speed due to a faulty transmitter switch, low oil level or there's a need for an oil change as the old oil is no longer up to the job. Oil pressure switches are easily changed.

The important thing is that you aren't getting a warning light when driving at speed. If your oil level is okay and it isn't due an oil/filter change - it probably is the oil pressure switch at fault.

For your own peace of mind try adding an oil additive.

Flashing red light for oil when oil is full and has just been serviced?

i would question whether the oil changer might have broken the low oil sensor, or perhaps just knocked the connections off the sensor. to be more specific would require knowing the specific make/model vehicle to know exactly where to look for that sensor, and if it could easily be knocked when changing the oil or filter.

Oil light intermittently flashing on and off but oil level is ok

Faulty Oil Pressure Sensor Switch located adjacent the Oil Filter, Check wire connections. While changing the Oil Filter these are often disconnected and not reconnected right or even damaged by accident. Unplug it and look to see if it is clean or not and reconnect it. See if the problem (still blinking) is still occurring. If it is, the Sensor may need to be replaced. Also do you have any oil leaks? If there is a leak it may be causing the oil pressure to drop below the minimum acceptable level, activating the light.

My wife says the oil light just came on her 2001 beetle (is this a low level sensor?)

oil pressure sensor = when oil light comes on = sensor is not recieving a high enough oil pressure. 1) Did you check the oil level in the engine? 2) if the oil level is fine, and it just had an oil change, the filter (filament style) might have been installed upside down. also does the light come on and beep only during first couyple seconds of being started or while driving down the road?

Ford taurus engine oil light

In Australia, the oil pressure sender switches, depending on the car, cost as little as $15AU. Also depending on the car, they can be relatively easy to change, if you can get access. So even if a mechanic were to change it, I wouldn't think they would charge more than 30 mins of labour.

Oil light comes on at certain times

First, check the oil level on the dipstick. If it is low, add the required amount of approved motor oil. If the level is correct and the light still comes on, there may be other issues.
