SOURCE: dodge ram 4.7 p0440

Symptoms You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
Causes A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • The gas cap is not installed or working properly
  • The purge solenoid has failed
  • The canister is plugged and not working properly
Possible Solutions With a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
  • Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
  • Check and/or replace the sensor
  • Check and/or replace the purge valve
  • Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

SOURCE: My 04 Dodge Dakota 4.7L V8 has engine code P0344?

P0344 - "Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent"
It could only be a glitch if you've received the code only once. Sometimes something as simple as an engine misfire could cause the the sensor to misinterpret a problem. As the camshaft normally has at least two sensors monitoring it, it's unusual that there would be only one sensor indicating a problem.
Firstly, try clearing the code... you can do this by using a code reader which can be purchased for your own use; or by taking your truck to a place like Advance Auto Parts and they'll do it for free. Just do not let people advise you that disconnecting the battery will clear it, often the only thing that does is deactivate the Check Engine light but the code will remain written in the computers RAM until cleared manually.
If the code comes back later after you've had it cleared, or appears multiple times, then there is most likely an issue with the sensor itself (as the code description implies) and will need to be replaced. These sensors are fairly inexpensive, but unless you have mechanical know-how, i'd suggest you let a trusted dealership take care of that. It shouldn't take more than an hour at most to replace it

How many 'Limp Mode' scenarios are there?

The P0340 and P0344 codes are for the crankshaft position sensor on bank One, (Left side of the engine as you stand at the belt and pulley end of the engine block). Replace the sensor to see if it fixes the problem.
I cannot find a U1412 code so it could be a Dealership only error code.

with the key in the "on" position (not started/running) take off the NEG cable from battery and touch it to the positive terminal of the battery leaving it on there for about 5-10 mins, reconnect neg cable to battery and then start vehicle your check engine light and computer should be reset. Works for any vehicle. Good luck.

There is a routine you can follow to help clear your computer of any stray error codes after maintenance. Ask your mechanic (or inspection station) how to go about this before assuming something else is wrong.
