98 Ford Explorer Door Problems- how to open without panel removal. inwinblades .... HELLO panel removal??? door won't open... Been searching all ... ok this better work on all doors, im aboutt o try this on my rear passenger door. .... I didn't care about the plastic door handle so i just "busted" it to pieces.
get a tool from the parts store called a slimjim.. its a thin long metal bar that has notches in one end..it will fit between the weather strip and the windowglass and allow you to "trip" the door latch to open the car door(just like car thieves do!) and then you can acess the door panel to fix those pesky handles..
It wont be pretty but examine other rear door and be familiar with retaining fixings,ie door grab handle , window winder , and any screw fixings .
Remove what you can and maybe the rear seat also (sorry) The window winder removal is easier than you think ! It's held on by a horse shoe shaped spring clip, remove with a simple shoe lace or narrow piece of cloth pulled in the opposite direction of the horse shoe clip.(don't loose) This is about as much as I can help you , after this it's a tug and pull (against snap fixxings) upward lifting motion of the panel. Good Luck
the rear door panel should be two pcs.the lower pc is held on by plastic clips, look for screws you can get to and remove such screws ,pull lower pc away from door for acess to latch assy-panel is hard plastic so damage is probable
i dont know if ur door is electric or manual.as for the door not opening from the inside it could be a rod has come off from the inside of the door to the handle you have to take inside door panel off and have a look.
There is a child safety switch on the rear latch assembly that prevents opening from the inside handle. This switch may be on. Check your owners manual for more info.
