To check slighty pry the bottom edge of your door with your fingernails if it is tight all the way to the bottom it probably is the snap fastners. Make sure to remove the door handle bolts/nuts.

Hi, the PCM is hid inside the car behind the kick panel on the passenger's side.

Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Remove the instrument panel side trim strip.
  3. Remove the cowl side trim panel (kick panel).
  4. Remove the glove box.
  5. Remove the passenger side lower foot well trim panel.
  6. Remove the two retaining nuts.
  7. Remove the generic electronic module (GEM0 and the bracket and position aside.
  8. Disconnect the 3 powertrain control (PCM) module electrical connectors and remove the PCM.
  9. Installation is the reverse of the remove procedure.
    CAUTION Make sure that the PCM electrical connectors do not unlock when installing the GEM module.

What step are taken to remove a dash from a 1996 lincon towncarto access the a/c heater blend door actuator
what is the issue? May not be the blend door motor. Big job.

The climate control assembly has three control knobs (18519):
  • The airflow control or function selector knob controls vacuum and electrical applications.
  • The temperature control knob, attached to the potentiometer, controls the position of the A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616) mounted on heater air plenum chamber (18471).
  • The blower motor control knob, attached to the heater blower motor switch (18578), provides four speeds of blower motor operation.

A/C Electronic Door Actuator Motor Removal
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Remove instrument panel (04320). Refer to Section 01-12 .
Instrument Panel Removal
  1. Position wheels straight ahead.
  2. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01 .
  3. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02 .
  4. Remove RF wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Section 04-04 .
  5. Remove retaining nut in radiator coolant recovery reservoir area.
  6. Remove bolt retaining front fender apron (16054) to front fender (16005).
  7. Position front fender splash shield out of the way.
  8. Lower vehicle.
  9. Tag and remove wiring connectors.
  10. Remove retaining screw in parking brake control (2780). Remove parking brake control.
  11. Remove screw retaining instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement (04502).









  12. Remove steering column assembly. Refer to Section 11-04 .
  13. Remove from the LH and RH cowl side trim panels (02345).
  14. Remove lower cowl side trim panels.
  15. Tag and disconnect wiring connectors in LH and RH cowls.
  16. Remove ground wire assembly.
  17. Remove retaining rivet in the passenger side of the instrument panel (04320).
  18. Unsnap the instrument panel finish panel (04338), center and RH.
  19. Unsnap the instrument panel finish panel, (LH).
  20. Remove and disconnect the radio chassis (18806).
  21. Remove retaining screw in the instrument panel finish panel.
  22. Position the instrument panel finish panel out of the way.
  23. Tag and disconnect the wiring connectors.
  24. Remove retaining screw in the passenger side air bag module (044A74).
  25. Disconnect the electrical connector to the passenger side air bag module.
  26. Remove and disconnect the instrument panel upper finish panel (044A90).
  27. Remove instrument panel to cowl brace retaining screw.
  28. On Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, remove screws retaining instrument panel finish panel (044D70) and remove instrument panel finish panel.
  29. Remove retaining nut on the instrument LH and RH lower finish panel.
  30. Remove instrument panel cowl brace (045D56).
  31. Disconnect vacuum hose on the harness assembly.
  32. Remove upper and lower screws retaining instrument panel finish panel to dash panel (01610).


  1. Disconnect the A/C electronic door actuator motor electrical connector.
  2. Remove four A/C electronic door actuator motor retaining screws.
  3. Remove A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616).

What all do i have to remove to replace the heater cot 2002 jeep liberty
Check this procedure...
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Disconnect and remove the negative battery.
    CAUTION After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait 2 minutes for the driver-s/passenger-s air bag system capacitor to discharge before attempting to do any work around the steering column or instrument.
  3. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  4. Remove the instrument panel by performing the following procedure:
    1. Turn the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
    2. Remove the A-pillar trim from both sides of the vehicle.
    3. Remove the top cover from the instrument panel.
    4. Remove the speakers.
    5. Remove the floor console.
    6. Remove the radio.
    7. Remove the center support bracket.
    8. Remove the trim panels from both sides of the inner cowl.
    9. Remove the fuse cover from the junction box.
    10. Remove the instrument panel cluster bezel.
    11. Remove the steering column opening cover from the instrument panel.
    12. Remove the steering column bracket from the instrument panel column support bracket.
    13. Remove the lower steering column shroud cover-to-multifunction switch screw; then, unsnap both halves of the shroud cover from the steering column.
    14. Disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness connectors from the following steering column components:
      Both lower clockspring connector receptacles Left multifunction switch receptacle Right multifunction switch receptacle Both ignition switch receptacles Shifter interlock solenoid receptacle Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) receptacle, if equipped
    15. Turn the ignition switch to ON position; then, release and remove the shifter interlock cable connector from the ignition lock housing receptacle.
    16. Turn the ignition switch to OFF position; this will prevent the steering wheel from turning and the loss of the clockspring centering following steering column removal.
    17. Remove the 4 steering column-to-instrument panel steering column bracket nuts.
    18. Remove the steering column from the instrument panel.

  5. Remove the driver-s side cowl trim cover.
  6. Disconnect the green and light blue wire harness bulk connectors at the junction block.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector at the inner side of the pedal support bracket.
  8. Remove the 2 bolts from the front and the 2 from the side of the pedal support bracket.
  9. Remove the glove box.
  10. Remove the 2 HVAC mounting bolts behind the center trim.
  11. Remove the passenger trim bezel.
  12. Remove the HVAC mount bolt above the glove box.
  13. Remove the HVAC bolt at the lower outside glove box opening.
  14. Remove the passenger trim cover, disconnect the blower resistor, remove the rolldown brackets at the right cowl side panel.
  15. Disconnect the vacuum check valve and the vacuum reservoir.
  16. Disconnect the blower connectors.
  17. Remove the 4 top bolts connecting the instrument panel to the cowl.
  18. Roll the instrument panel rearward and disconnect the wiring.
  19. Remove the panel.
  20. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  21. Disconnect the air conditioning system lines at the evaporator. Plug the openings to prevent contamination.
  22. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core. Plug the openings to prevent coolant loss.
  23. If equipped with a manual temperature control system, unplug the heater/air conditioning system vacuum supply line connector from the T-fitting located near the heater core tubes.
  24. Remove all remaining fasteners and connections and remove the HVAC unit.
  25. Disconnect all remaining hoses and wires.
  26. Remove the blower motor.
  27. Pop out the grommet on the vacuum supply line and slide hole.
  28. Remove the foam gasket from around the heater core tubes.
  29. Pry off the 4 snap clips that hold the halves of the unit together and separate the unit halves.
  30. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  31. Refill the cooling system.
  32. Connect the negative battery.
  33. Evacuate, charge and leak test the system.
  34. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures. Check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

Need to remove the dash on a 1998 lincoln town car to replace heater cord
Removal & Installation

  1. If equipped, turn the air suspension service switch to the OFF position before raising the vehicle.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
    1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    2. Negative battery cable
    • Front seats
    • Carpeting
    • Rear airflow duct
    • Heater hoses
    1. Remove the driver’s side air bag module by removing or disconnect the following:
    2. SRS module-to-steering wheel bolts, from both sides of the steering wheel.
    • SRS module and disconnect the electrical connector
    • Horn switch electrical connector
    1. Remove the passenger’s side SRS module by removing or disconnecting the following:
    2. Open the glove box and disconnect the glove compartment isolator
    • Push inward on the 2 glove box door tabs and lower it
    • SRS module’s electrical connector
    • SRS module-to-instrument panel bolts and the module
    1. Remove the instrument panel by removing or disconnecting the following:
    2. Speed control servo nuts and move the servo aside
    • Bolt and disconnect the left side bulkhead connector
    • Left side bulkhead connector from the dash panel
    • Windshield washer fluid reservoir screw, and position the reservoir aside
    • Blower motor electrical connector
    • Air conditioning pressure cut-off switch electrical connector
    • In-line electrical harness connector
    • Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) variable blower motor controller electrical connector
    • Right front wheel
    • Right front fender splash shield bolts and move the shield away from the cowl
    • Wiring harness from the evaporator case
    • Wiring harness from the cowl
    • Right side instrument panel lower insulator pushpins, disconnect the power point electrical connector, remove the courtesy lamp from the socket and remove the insulator
    • Unseat the wiring grommet and feed the wiring harness through the cowl
    • Cowl side trim panels and the windshield side garnish moldings from both sides
    • Locking clip and the Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module electrical connector
    • Antenna connector
    • Ground wire bolts from the right side
    • EATC hose at the evaporator housing
    • Bolt and disconnect the bulkhead connector from the right side
    • Pull the door weatherstrip seals away from the instrument panel on both sides
    • Tunnel brace trim cover
    • Climate control head vacuum harness connector
    • Instrument panel tunnel brace nuts and the brace
    • Ground wire bolts from the left side
    • Wiring harness connectors from the left side
    • Parking brake switch electrical connector
    • Pry out the instrument panel defroster opening grille, disconnect the electrical connectors and the remove the grille.
    1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    2. 3 upper instrument panel screws
    • Instrument panel cowl side nut from both sides
    • Instrument panel cowl side bolt. From the left side
    • Instrument panel
    • Windshield wiper mounting arm and the pivot shaft
    • Electrical connector and remove the upper cowl extension screw and the extension
    • Vacuum hoses and the wire harness connector from the evaporative emissions canister purge valve
    • Evaporative emissions purge valve nuts and the valve
    • Cowl side nut
    • Right side rear fender apron screws and reposition the apron
    • Evaporator housing nut and screw
    • Vacuum hoses and the wiring harness connectors
    • Plenum chamber’s lower flange nuts
    • Plenum chamber’s upper flange nut and the plenum chamber

    my Ford manual says the same thing...

    "Behind the right Kick panel"

    you should not have to remove anything to get to this and there should be a cutout in the trim panel where the switch is located

    could it be someone removed it?
    also check the drivers kick panel

    How do i replace the heater core on a 1996 Grand Cherokee 6cyl. 4wd?
    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

    Note:     This revised Heater A/C Housing service procedure is referenced from Technical Service Bulletin No: 24-02-98. Removal
    1. Disconnect battery. This must be done to prevent accidental airbag deployment.
    2. Using on A/C recovery unit, remove all R-134a refrigerant from the A/C system. See: Service and Repair
    3. Remove the shift knob by pulling sharply upward.
    4. Place the transfer case in low range. Pry the shift indicator bezel out of the console using a trim stick.
    5. Apply the parking brake and place the transfer case in neutral. Remove the parking brake trim insert. Remove the console attaching screws. Lift the console up and disconnect the 4WD indicator lamp hamess. Remove the console.
    6. Remove the passenger side knee blocker. Remove the single end screw. Remove the screws below the glove box. Remove the screw at the courtesy lamp. Remove the ash receiver and the screws behind it. Remove the instrument panel armature screw behind the ash receiver. Open the glove box and remove the screws behind it. Lower the panel and disconnect the lamp harnesses. For additional instrument panel service procedures to complete steps 6 thru 25, refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/ Instrument Cluster / Carrier/ Service and Repair/ Procedures. See: Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators\Instrument Cluster / Carrier\Service and Repair
    7. Remove the pod switch bezels on both sides of the steering column with a trim stick.
    8. Remove the drive side knee blocker. Remove the end screw and screws located at the bottom of the knee blocker.
    9. Remove the cowl top trim panel by prying it up with a trim stick. Remove the solar sensor if equipped.
    10. Remove the "A" post trim panels.
    11. Remove the remove the bolts that attach the lower instrument panel reinforcement to the instrument panel armature and remove the reinforcement.
    12. Disconnect the park lamp switch.
    13. Pull back the carpet at the transmission tunnel from the base of the instrument panel center bezel. Remove the nuts from the upper studs and bolts through the floor that secure the instrument panel center bracket.
    14. Remove the bolts that secure the instrument panel center bracket to the drivers side of the transmission tunnel.
    15. Remove the screws securing the Vehicle Information Center and remove it. Remove the screw fastening the mounting bracket.
    16. Unplug the vacuum harness connector or vent tube on ATC equipped vehicles and the wire harness located under the passenger side of the instrument panel.
    17. Remove the screws holding the passenger side kick panel, along with the screw from the kick panel shroud.
    18. Unplug the antenna cable near the right cowl side panel.
    19. Unplug the instrument panel wire harness connectors from the junction block at the right cowl side panel.
    20. Remove the bolts that secure the instrument panel armature to the windshield fence.
    21. Remove the nuts that secure the top if the instrument panel armature to the windshield fence.
    22. Remove the bolts that secure the ends of the instrument panel to the cowl side panel.
    23. Remove the nuts that secure the steering column to the brake pedal support and lower the steering column.
    24. Remove the bolts that secure the instrument panel armature to the brake pedal support.
    25. Place a protective cover on the seats. Lift the instrument panel off the windshield fence studs and maneuver the instrument panel out and lower it onto the seats.
    26. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the evaporator tubes. Make sure to install plugs or tape the ends of the lines and fittings to ensure that excessive amounts of moisture do not contaminate the A/C system.
    27. Remove the vacuum line at the tee from the main vacuum supply harness. This line runs through the body with the upper refrigerant line.
    28. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core and clamp the ends closed to prevent coolant loss. See: Heater Core\Service and Repair
    29. Remove the coolant overflow bottle.
    30. Remove the Powertrain Control Module with connectors intact and set aside.
    31. Remove the heater A/C housing mounting nuts from the studs on the engine compartment side of the dash.
    32. Remove the heater A/C housing from the vehicle.
    33. To Install the components, reverse the procedure stated above. Torque Specifications: Instrument panel center bracket to floor transmission tunnel fastener: 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) Instrument panel to windshield fence bolts and nuts: 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) Instrument panel to cowl side inner panel bolts: 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) Instrument panel to steering column support bolts: 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.)

    26. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the evaporator tubes. Make sure to install plugs or tape the ends of the lines and fittings to ensure that excessive amounts of moisture do not contaminate the A/C system.
    27. Remove the vacuum line at the tee from the main vacuum supply harness. This line runs through the body with the upper refrigerant line.
    28. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core and clamp the ends closed to prevent coolant loss. See: Heater Core\Service and Repair
    29. Remove the coolant overflow bottle.
    30. Remove the Powertrain Control Module with connectors intact and set aside.
    31. Remove the heater A/C housing mounting nuts from the studs on the engine compartment side of the dash.
    32. Remove the heater A/C housing from the vehicle.
    33. To Install the components, reverse the procedure stated above. Torque Specifications: Instrument panel center bracket to floor transmission tunnel fastener: 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) Instrument panel to windshield fence bolts and nuts: 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) Instrument panel to cowl side inner panel bolts: 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) Instrument panel to steering column support bolts: 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.)

    Replacing heater core
    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

    Note:     This revised Heater A/C Housing service procedure is referenced from Technical Service Bulletin No: 24-02-98. Removal
    1. Disconnect battery. This must be done to prevent accidental airbag deployment.
    2. Using on A/C recovery unit, remove all R-134a refrigerant from the A/C system. See: Service and Repair
    3. Remove the shift knob by pulling sharply upward.
    4. Place the transfer case in low range. Pry the shift indicator bezel out of the console using a triin stick.
    5. Apply the parking brake and place the transfer case in neutral. Remove the parking brake trim insert. Remove the console attaching screws. Lift the console up and disconnect the 4WD indicator lamp hamess. Remove the console.
    6. Remove the passenger side knee blocker. Remove the single end screw. Remove the screws below the glove box. Remove the screw at the courtesy lamp. Remove the ash receiver and the screws behind it. Remove the instrument panel armature screw behind the ash receiver. Open the glove box and remove the screws behind it. Lower the panel and disconnect the lamp harnesses. Refer to Body and Frame/ Interior trim. See: Body and FrameInterior Moulding / Trim
    7. Remove the pod switch bezels on both sides of the steering column with a trim stick.
    8. Remove the drive side knee blocker. Remove the end screw and screws located at the bottom of the knee blocker.
    9. Remove the cowl top trim panel by prying it up with a trim stick. Remove the solar sensor if equipped.
    10. Remove the "A" post trim panels.
    11. Remove the remove the bolts that attach the lower instrument panel reinforcement to the instrument panel armature and remove the reinforcement.
    12. Disconnect the park lamp switch.
    13. Pull back the carpet at the transmission tunnel from the base of the instrument panel center bezel. Remove the nuts from the upper studs and bolts through the floor that secure the instrument panel center bracket.
    14. Remove the bolts that secure the instrument panel center bracket to the drivers side of the transmission tunnel.
    15. Remove the screws securing the Vehicle Information Center and remove it. Remove the screw fastening the mounting bracket.
    16. Unplug the vacuum harness connector or vent tube on ATC equipped vehicles and the wire harness located under the passenger side of the instrument panel.
    17. Remove the screws holding the passenger side kick panel, along with the screw from the kick panel shroud.
    18. Unplug the antenna cable near the right cowl side panel.
    19. Unplug the instrument panel wire harness connectors from the junction block at the right cowl side panel.
    20. Remove the bolts that secure the instrument panel armature to the windshield fence.
    21. Remove the nuts that secure the top if the instrument panel armature to the windshield fence.
    22. Remove the bolts that secure the ends of the instrument panel to the cowl side panel.
    23. Remove the nuts that secure the steering column to the brake pedal support and lower the steering column.
    24. Remove the bolts that secure the instrument panel armature to the brake pedal support.
    25. Place a protective cover on the seats. Lift the instrument panel off the windshield fence studs and maneuver the instrument panel out and lower it onto the seats.
