Take the instrument cluster out of the truck. Turn it face down and remove the back cover. It is a big computer panel. Right behind the odometer screen you will see nine little wires coming up and saughtered to the board. One of the wires will have a crack in the saughter. It needs to be redone to make a good connection. I had this problem for a long time and it took no time to fix. Hope this helps!

My 2000 Expedition odometer turns off, then back on intermittently. Also, my compass suddenly began to show incorrect direction and my keyless entry would not unlock the doors, but locks them OK....

My odometer had the same problem starting about 40k miles. This is a very common problem on early Expeditions. At 65k miles I removed the instrument cluster and re-soldered the pins on the ribbon connector. It was actually very easy to do and only took about 30 minutes overall. I now have 160k miles and the odometer is still going strong.

When I turn the key on in my 99 Expedition Guages go to maximum

probably when heater core replaced instrument cluster was damaged. check for broken wires or loose connections. on newer vehicles sometimes if you disconnect the instrument cluster you have to reprogram it with a scan tool for the car to recognize it.

Short in the odometer

Check on line for information on how to repair loose solder connections in cluster. I read that the solder connections come undone and that is why the odometer works intermitantly.

Short in the odometer

better just to get another one from a salvage yard. real easy to change out vs. sending it off to be rebuilt

The odometer is stuck at 124000. The speedometer works fine. Any ideas?

Odomete and speedometer get thhe data from the same speed sender, that means that the odometer is faulty or stuck.
