SOURCE: abs and traction control lights coming on

Its the abs sensor, if you encounter an ice patch or snow you won't even be able to stop because the pedal will will push back and make the rip grind noise. If you pull the ABS fuse out, you won't have ABS but you can stop and you won't have the grind noise and back pressure for now. Its safer to not have ABS when the sensor is faulty.

  • How you see what is wrong is by hooking up a scan tool an checking for stored DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . If the lights are on codes are stored pointing in the right diagnostic procedure .

I have a 02 Cavalier that when your driving the Trac off light comes on when the light is on it runs rough and shifts hard but if i put it in park turn it off and restart it it's fine

There is a malfunction in you antilock brake/traction control system. When the TRAC light is on, the computer is trying to tell you either 1. That the traction control is active and is controlling your brakes, engine and transmission to stop a wheel skid, or 2. There is is a malfunction in your traction control system.

In the first case above, the TRAC light will only be on for a few seconds until the conditions causing your wheels to slip no longer exist. If the light is staying on even though there is no way your wheels are slipping or skidding, then this is a malfunction. You must scan both your Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and your Antilock Brake System (ABS) module to properly diagnose a problem with this system.

Tcs light is always on and the breaks are hot

Have the brakes and Traction Control System, TCS, checked. When traction control in engaged it will brake automatically on some wheels to help control your traction and when slipping is detected causing the brakes to overheat. On the other side of that coin if a caliper is sticking or a fault in the brake system is causing the brakes to hang that could cause the Traction Control system to detect a fault as it tries to compensate but can't.

you've got a bad wheel speed sensor or corresponding tone ring. take it to a dealer. they'll hook it up to a computer and tell you which sensor or tone ring it is and give you an estimate. you only pay for the hour of diag.

I Have a constant knocking noise on uneven roads

If the noise is from the front = Its possible that the front balljoints are very worn - the nearside is the normal suspect. I am not sure why this would affect the traction control. Traction control can be affected by worn brakes and faulty sensors. Let me know what is the cause - if you find the fault. good luck.

Flashing traction control lighton 1998 windstar

the code means that the traction control module is detecting a problem with the solenoid that controls the ingage/dis ingage of the wheels. also if the sending units of the ABS system are either moved or damaged this could also throw a code. seeing you just replaced the brakes and rotors i would start there.
