What smokes exactly the heater? If so you have a leaking heater core.

You have relays, fuses and the control itself. Could be any or all of the above.

My Mitsubishi eclipse overheats in heat mode and the fans shut off that cool the engine. What do I do?

Defrost is turning the fans on so there is probably an issue with the fan controls on the car.

Someone will need to check the fuse for the blower, then the blower motor and the resistor.

The heat/defrost won't work

This can be caused by a stuck blend door or a clogged heater core. Can you hear the blend door moving when you turn the temp knob? If not, it may have disconnected from the control panel or blend door. If the door works, remove the heater core and flush it or replace it.

yOUR HEATER CORE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ANTIFREEZE CONTINUALLY RUNS THROUGH YOUR HEATER CORE WITH OR WITHOUT THE HEAT OR AC BEING ON. THIS ALLOWS YOUR ANTI-FREEZE TO COOL ABIT WHEN IT RETURNS TO THE BLOCK.

We have no idea if you have any knowledge about motor
vehicles at all

So to go into all sorts of diagnostic & testing approaches,
only for you to tell us you never work on your own vehicles,
won't do much for you

It sounds as though your engine is in serious trouble
& may not be fixable in the car as is

Need a lot more to go on to give any ideas

On my 2003 Ford Escape 3.0L VIN 1 I have the following codes, PO316,305,306,300,304. Are these codes caused by a possible vacuum leakl? If so what would be the likely spot?

Forget the 300 & 316

The 304,305 &306 are ignition coil codes for
#4 ,#5 ,#6 cylinders

Doubt you have more than 1 bad coil

Check for Vacuum Leaks -- they wouldn't
help any, but are the cause of 80% of all
O2 Sensor Codes.

You may luck out & if any coils are bad, you won't
have to remove the upper intake (this time around)

You will get at least one bad coil a year on all fords

Have the intake manifold Smoke Tested with an EVAP
Smoke Machine,for leaks
